I can't remember if I ever read this as a child, but we read this as a family read aloud at bedtime with our almost 8 year old daughter. She enjoyed the book and is quite a big Roald Dahl fan (I think The BFG is her favorite).

I enjoyed Matilda as a character, and was quite happy with the ending for her and Miss Honey. The Trunchbull is just an awful, disturbing person, as are Matilda's parents. You really feel for Matilda and are rooting for her the entire time. She's a smart girl with resilience who doesn't let much get her down. And who doesn't love a book where the protaganist loves to read? ;)

Matilda is one of those books that will never stop being enjoyable, no matter one's age. It is sure to be a staple in the "learn to read" library for my own children one day. Simple enough to read in one afternoon, witty and heartfelt enough to keep you thinking after the book has been closed.

An absolute favourite of mine as a child and still a favourite reading it again as an adult. Matilda is definitely a heroine of mine <3

This was really cute and a fast read. There is a movie based on this that I remember seeing years ago. It is actually quite accurate to this! I listened to this as an audiobook and was easily caught up in the story.
MAtilda is a smart girl who deserved a better early childhood. Very bright and curious. Her behavior in the library and her first day of school had me grinning. Although Miss Honey seemed too weak in this and was a bit frustrating that she had to be saved be a child, braver than she. But she was a nice teacher. Matilda's father is one nasty piece of work and the rumors he starts about his own daughter when she started school mad me mad. But those reactions were perfect as I listened.

Re-read.

Great audio version narrated by Kate Winslet. The characters really came to life and of course it is as thrilling as ever to see Matilda's triumph over her terrible parents and Miss Trunchbull. Dahl really knows how to paint a description of a despicable person.

Summary:Matilda applies her untapped mental powers to rid the school of the evil, child-hating headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, and restore her nice teacher, Miss Honey, to financial security.

first chapter book with my son.
