The most fantastical part of Matilda is not that Matilda can move objects with her mind, but that she read The Sound and the Fury when she was like five.
i have always identified with matilda. when i was a little girl my dad told me i was a "voracious reader", like matilda.
Sabrina really liked the beginning of the book (describing precocious Matilda who is a lot like her), and the end, where all the bad adults get their comeuppance or exit the scene. But I had forgotten how much of this book is just adults abusing kids. Literally chapters and chapters full of adults behaving badly and throwing epithets left and right. Sabrina felt a little uncomfortable and was sad that people were so mean to kids. I think The Witches and James and the Giant Peach were a little bit easier to stomach because the bad adults weren’t the entire focus.

This book was adorable and so much like the movie. It brought back some happy memories:)
I cannot believe I didn't read this as a kid. It is an awesome book, and Ronald Dahl is a treasure.
Not Dahls best work, but still a fun read. Enjoyed it all the more having seen the musical in Broadway first. Generally prefer the opposite order, but for this book it worked.
Matilda is my idol. There's nothing else I can say.
