Having read many of these books, not in any particular order it was good to read the first of the series and see how the life of Maisie Dobbs started for this author. An excellent start in my reading and I will continue to pick up these as I come across them.

A great read!

This book has been on my list for quite awhile, since a reading buddy listed it as Read. I found it on my Kindle last week and started reading — and couldn’t stop until I was done. I plan to read the others in the series.

This book reminded me of a novel my brother gave me when I was in high school that I read several times. Yes, too good to believe as a real person, but I was taken in and found the diversion to be just what I need right now.

I really enjoyed the middle part but, for a mystery, there was not enough intrigue or suspense. I felt let down at the end.

Well, that was disappointing. I was excited to discover a new (to me) series. I expected much more when I read about all the awards this book won.
Much of it was predictable and I won’t be reading the next book in the series.

It was a good book. Reminded me of Downtown Abbey just with a much more forgiving family. Still servants trying to break the cast system that is feudal English life.

Maisie is a great character - interesting and unique without being so weird you can't relate. I can't wait to read more Maisie books...

It took several recommendations before I took a chance on this book, and I thought it was really good. It's a mystery without being gory or gratuitously violent, and it is as much a world-building book to start the Maisie Dobbs series. I am sorely lacking in knowledge about The Great War, and I appreciated this as what I hope is an accurate representation of some of the stories and home coming.
