the relationship between sophie and the BFG truly resonated with me. their ability to understand and appreciate each other, despite their differences, is so beautiful. the BFG is so misunderstood in his world, along with sophie in the orphanage, yet their mutual trust makes an inseparable bond.
the BFG's role in collecting dreams and giving them to children is the most meaningful part of the story for me. he cherishes the jars full of dreams and feels hopeful it gives children something comforting at night. the bad dreams are also important with helping children confront their fears through challenges. The BFG is a quick reminder that dreaming lets us escape reality.
side note, his courage to stand up against the giants helped save all the children's futures, as well as their hopes for achieving great things. ugh, tears.
to give the BFG a 5/5 would seem like an understatement to me. there is such depth in this book that can be appreciated at different stages of life.
we, as human beings, all have the potential to be kind and gentle in a world that sometimes feels cruel.
