Good fun book for kids. Set in two different time periods, 18 years apart, a girl finds out her dads back story. Great vocabulary

This was a beautiful and moving book. So wonderfully deserving of the Newbery and by a first time author, too! I got a little teary-eyed at the end.

In my mind, this book is a clear example of all that can go wrong with historical fiction. Some major timeline issues that could have been easily clarified (surely most people don't know the intricacies of Kansas' prohibition laws and how they differed from the US?)and a jumble of every big happening possible in 1917/1918.

Plus, the characters never really did anything from me. So confused as to how this rose to the top of the Newberry pile.

Did not disappoint. I think it should be on Sonlight Curriculum's reading lists

Beautiful story. I liked it better the second time around

This was a fantastic read to share with my daughter. This book had fantastic characters and delivered stories about the town of Manifest 1918 and 1936 and tied them together very nicely.

It was easy to see why this won the Newberry.

wonderful ...

{audiobook} Jenna Lamia does a wonderful job reading this book.

Skillfully woven story, beautiful writing. Worthy of its Newbery Award. Didn’t realize the story would cover the 1918 Spanish flu, an interesting topic to read during COVID19 pandemic!
