This was so bad - I can’t. So so boring and ridiculous.

This started out really good but once they get to the town, Blackstone?, I started losing interest. The setup for how this turned polyamorous was kind of weird.
Daniel was like "well I'm not enough to protect her so we need Finn and the only way to get him to protect her is if he loves her too so I guess I'll have to share her."
And I didn't like how Ali constantly referred to her "rabbit heart" / rabbit mentality. This got old. Ali is almost completely helpless, she just freezes up in all situations. This book really only works because it's a zombie apocalypse.

It's 2 months since this zombie outbreak and Ali has been living in her neighbor's attic. She finally runs out of food and emerges, immediately running into Daniel who gets her to agree to travel with him while being pretty open that he wants to fuck her. She's attracted to him too so it works out. They travel but are caught by a big gang of men. Finn shows up, an ex-cop, and saves them like a badass. He also leads them to safety. Daniel is 42(41?), Ali is 32, and Finn is 26.

They make it to this town where they meet the leader Santa and his hot daughter Erin. Erin and Finn flirt, causing Ali to go into jealous mode. They fight and makeup. A woman gets murdered in town. Later they find bodies ripped apart in a vicious attack.

The big reveal is that a woman Rachel got bit and she's being kept as a Zombie by Owen and Andy, 2 guys who loved her. They killed the other townswoman because she said some mean things about Rachel. They shoot Finn and kidnap Ali, intending to get her infected thinking that Finn and Dan will insist on protecting her even as a zombie so then Rachel can live too. This is pretty dumb. Meanwhile the vicious attack turns out to be a big pack of red-eyed dogs?? Never clear if these are zombie dogs.

Andy and Owen shootout with the townspeople. Andy opens the town gate to let a horde of infected in. The town is saved when a band of men show up to kill the zombies. Then the men have a mini-coup, the new leader is Captain Sean Cummings who with 3-4 others want to join the town but he says 3 other guys wanted to go along with the plan to take women as payment so they decide to banish these guys. One of them is Nick, who is the MMC in the next book. During the fight Santa got bit so they have to put him down and Erin becomes interim leader, but seems like Sean might be a candidate for leader too.

Afterward there's some MFM dual penetration sex and Ali says she might be pregnant.

2.5 -3 stars. VF's June pick is an action-packed zombie apocalypse steamy romance. Thank you, Bonnie! This fun read helped ease some of the real life stress of saying goodbye to one of my dogs yesterday.
