I liked this better than the first one, but I just don't see what the big deal is. They're not that great.
While I did not find this follow-up as engrossing as THE [b:GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO|2429135|The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1)|Stieg Larsson|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1275608878s/2429135.jpg|1708725], it was still a wonderful read (I was reading TATTOO while trying to negotiate the streets of New York - I literally could not put it down for anything other than work in the office). And I say less engrossing if only because there wasn't a real, good old-fashioned mystery involved.
FIRE is more character-driven than TATTOO, which is a great treat for readers. We get to learn who Lisbeth really is in this book, how she thinks, what she wants, and what series of events from her childhood led her to be accused of murder.
It's very sad that there will be only one more book in the trilogy; Larsson was a talent.

A good sequel to the first book the girl with a dragon tattoo
I liked this one more than the first book in the series. I am eagerly looking forward to reading the last one in the trilogy.
It succeeds at entertaining the reader, but it is definitely inferior when compared to the first book. The plot suffers from "sequel syndrome" by adding a whole lot of backstory to the childhood of one of the characters just so those events can tie in to the plot of the novel in a very unlikely way. I was able to look the other way for the sake of enjoyment that is not the only problem. The plot does have a few small twists here and there, but overall most events are predictable and the great mistery of the novel is not particularly difficult to crack, but for some reason the characters take their sweet time.
Faster than the first one, though I liked the end of the first one. This one ran like a out of control train and then just ended, like it hit a wall.
Yea! I loved this. After reading 3 back to back books that were crap, I was so happy to read this page-turner. I enjoyed it as much as his first book and I can't wait to read the 3rd one in May 2010.
This one is easily and 5 star. And if I could I would rate it 10 stars.
I loved it personally because this is more Lisbeth oriented and there is much more exploration on her.
I loved how Stieg wrote this one. This wasn't really a fast paced novel, but definitely I couldn't put this one down.
For a moment, everyone thought Lisbeth might actually be the culprit.
How many years of research did it take to write such a book? This has a myriad of information on woman trafficking and media. The world would really be an better place if we had an 'Millenium' magazine.

It was not quite as good as the first, in my opinion, but it definitely kept a decent pace most of the time. We got to know Salander better.
Perhaps one of the primary charms of these books for me, however, is that they're translated into British English.

This book was like an addiction. I could not get ENOUGH. Best of the trilogy!!!
