I am so grateful that Sarah Kay has unveiled a new collection of poetry for the first time in 10 years. As someone who has been closely following her work , I was especially grateful to be there the day this collection was published and see her perform many of the poems live.
Sarah’s work is a gift of reflective, thought-provoking, and moving messages that always remind me of the little bit of daylight left. Undoubtedly, lovers of her previous work and those new to her mastery of the art of poetry will be enthralled by the revelations and growth on display in this collection.

Most of these poems didn't resonate personally with me, but I did enjoy reading them. I like the way the author writes, and the little glimpses into her world. Stand-out poems for me were Orange and Tsubu.

as is with any poetry collection, there will be pieces that pass me by & then there are those poems that grab me by the shoulders & shake me until my head rattles.
to me, NMTW ranks higher mostly because i've had such a close experience with it, seeing Sarah Kay (& Phil Kaye!) perform live & how it opened up the world of poetry to 16 y/o me. however, i think the themes here in ALDL are closer to my paper heart. i highlighted & bookmarked so many pages, but here are a couple of lines that broke me:

What if you aren't as bad as you suspect you are? What if you'll never be as good as you ache?
