I devoured this book in a day! It was so cute and adorable with a freaky twist. I loved how the girls became friends again. As well as all the classic horror things and the true depiction of how people are on the internet. This was a must read for me!!

This is one of those books that's just plain fun to read (or listen to, as I ended up doing). It takes the basic Freaky Friday premise and gives it a modern twist by making it about two cousins who couldn't be more different. Ricki is a horror film buff who desperately wants to save her local drive-in theater---and share a perfect first kiss during the drive-in's big night. Lana, on the other hand, is a blossoming beauty YouTube star who cares much more about her follower count than anything going on IRL---or at least that's what Ricki thinks. When the two switch places and Ricki has to live Lana's life for a day, she realizes that there's a lot more behind her cousin's YouTube obsession than just a desire to be popular. I loved that the book explored themes of how an online presence can be both rewarding and toxic. I think that teens will relate to Lana's desire to show only her most perfect self to the world since that's such a predominant theme in our culture right now. Meanwhile, she's been hiding a whole host of secret fears and anxieties. Ricki's self-sabotaging quest for the perfect first kiss is also incredibly relatable---she's the type of girl who tries really hard to create that perfect scenario, only to mess up the natural romantic scenario that's unfolding right in front of her. Overall, I found this to be an entertaining book with some great messages about friendship and family and walking a mile in someone else's shoes!

NARRATION: Madison Lawrence did a great job with the narration, and I'd definitely listen to her again (actually I am, right now).

***Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher for review purposes (but ended up listening to the audiobook via my library). No other compensation was given and all opinions are my own.***

*3.5 stars

This was a really cute book and I enjoyed it, even if it took me 100 or so pages to get into.

Also Lana’s BF Erik was the sweetest. I just think that deserves a special mention.

A book about two girls who were close but separated. Their bodies are switched and they must work together in order to be back to who they were.

This was a cute, simple read. It was very enjoyable and really fun to read. I enjoyed the story of how the girls, Ricki and Lana, weren't close together in a relationship as before but after the body switched their lives changed. The author wrote this story well and everything was organized. Even though I read this switch a roo multiple times it wasn't a fresh new read. I did like how the main symbol was the pink car and how it brought all of the girls from the family together. Another part of the book I loved was how Ricki and Lana's boyfriends supported them so much throughout the book which was really cute. The background story of Lana was a good turn over of why she started her YouTube account because of her mom and how Ricki is saving her drive-in theater was also different then what I have read before. I did wish there was more to it but other then that this was a cute read.

Wallflowers. Beauty queens. Film buffs. Drama queens. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend a day in her shoes? Two estranged cousins—geeky horror movie fanatic Ricki and makeup guru Lana—accidentally switch bodies for a fateful summer road trip that is part ‪Freaky Friday‬, part romcom, and all heart

[I received an electronic review copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.]

I enjoyed the author's book Pretty in Punxsutawney so much, I couldn't wait to read this one. I thoroughly enjoyed this send up of the Freaky Friday movies! I thought it was interesting that the author chose to tell this from only one of the girl's perspectives, but it totally worked. In some ways, Ricki was the emotionally "healthier" one of the two (not entirely, but at least with regards to having the freedom to live her own life and make her own choices), and it made sense to process the story and Lana's life through her perspective.

I enjoyed how the author chose to deal with the anxiety parts of Lana's story - How Ricki woke up as Lana with that weight on her chest and didn't recognize it initially while Lana reveled in the freedom of being Ricki. I also liked that the girls' moms and their aunt were part of the resolution of the story. There's lots to love here about social media influencers, family, mental health and stress, romance, makeup, identity, etc.

Don't miss this YA treat!

Overall, this was a pretty cute and fun read! It took me a little while to fully connect to the story and the characters, but by the time I approached the middle, I was invested. It's a fun, very modern take on Freaky Friday, with a "switch" between two cousins who don't get along. As an only child who grew up close to her cousins, I loved this take.

While very fun and parts made me laugh (plus Erik, one of the love interests, is SO sweet), there's also a deeper element to it with an exploration of influencer culture and the toll that can take on mental health.

To me, parts of the beginning and end seemed a little cheesy/forced (especially pertaining to theme), I'll admit, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved getting to see the relationship-building between the cousins, as well as the aunts, and--to not get into spoilers--the development of a relationship with another beauty guru (besides Erik). Plus, the DOGS. The dogs are fantastic. There are wolf dogs and a Chihuahua, and the dynamic between them is so funny but so true. I can attest from personal experience (lol).

Basically, read for the fun but also meaningful take on Freaky Friday a la cousins, stay for the dogs--and Erik.
