Right off the bat, finding out that “The Frost Queen’s Blade” is set in the same world as The Shattered City duology made the reading experience so much fun! If you haven’t read Meg’s previous books, “Destroyer” & “Sanctifier” yet, they’re not necessary to the plot of “The Frost Queen’s Blade,” although I do highly recommend reading them because they’re fantastic! Meg has a way of making you connect with her flawed, complex characters & root for them even when the characters themselves are their own worst critics. Elma Volta’s character development throughout the twists & turns of the book was beautiful to read. It was also more than a little satisfying to watch Rune, the hardened, deadly-assassin-turned-body-guard, melt into the (still sarcastic) simp he was all along underneath that icy blue gaze. The spice was a slow burn, but boy oh boy did it pay off! Overall, “The Frost Queen’s Blade” by Meg Smitherman is a cozy, Romantasy read that I will most likely reach for again when the mood strikes. And I have a feeling the mood will strike any time I feel a chill in the air & I want to curl up with a hot beverage, a warm blanket, & a good book.

ok look, the plot sucked. but you know what? it was fun. 3 stars. would’ve been higher except for the “unplowed pussy” line.

oh also note trigger warning for blood play.

A girl destined to become queen and an assassin from the enemy kingdom what could go wrong...
I'll be honest it was a slightly slow start for me but by like chapter 5 I was hooked and just got even more hooked as the book went on! The emotional rollercoaster I went on with elma and rune was something else! A true enemies to lovers.. which I love.. but theirs just may be one of my favs ever! Def a must read!

I think she has a lot of promise as a writer, but this feels like maybe a second draft.  bunch of it could have been fleshed out more, it could have been way longer or even two books. The ending was built up so well only for it to feel like she got bored with it and just gave up. Also, would love a trigger warning for the
knife play/blood kink
.

This book was delightfully tense, and full of chemistry between the two main characters. The development of the main character was good and she was not whiny, although a bit scared and had imposter syndrome she came out on the other end. I felt as though I was seeing through Alma’s eyes. The love interest was cunning, lethal and romantic. Just the way I like them.
