A bit basic but honestly overall a very enjoyable read. I liked the MCs a lot. While I did see the twists coming, and they have been done before this was just a great all in fairytale. A lonely queen, a mysterious assassin and cool castles with a little magic. What’s not to love.
Was it the best writing ever? No. Could it have been longer? Yes. But overall this is an enjoyable read.

This book helped rekindle my reading after a bit of a slump! The pacing is perfectly done with a fantasy story that has my favourite tropes (enemies to lovers, he falls first). I loved Rune with his sarcastic quips and felt for Elma’s loneliness.
Some parts of the story felt a little superficial and I would’ve liked to see them fleshed out a bit more, but overall the level of detail was great!
The prose had me feeling everything Elma felt and I really rooted for her once she found her footing. I found her relatable and badass.
The relationship development between the MMC and FMC was perfectly done, it wasn’t rushed either.
