Lennon came across as whiny and wishy washy. Phoenix was a douche and a half, throwing punches anywhere and everywhere he felt like it, including a fucking funeral!!

I’m a little embarrassed I read this! These are some terrible people, and this book goes on FOREVER
Although I overall enjoyed this book I feel the more I read through it the more I found things that just annoyed me. So for the things I did not like:
Too many traumatic stuff going on, I feel like the Author couldn't pick her struggle and decided to just write in a bunch of them in - First: Eating disorder, Self Esteem issues, Bullying, Abusive and Alcoholic parents, Sex, Drugs & Rock and Roll, Second chances, Unplanned pregnancies', Death, Toxic Relationship and that is just what I remember right now.
Second thing I did not like was the angst between the mmc and mfc, after a few chapters it got old fast and frustrating like you did not need 564 pages in my opinion, which brings me to my third criticism .. this book really needed some editing and dialing down and maybe cleaned up the story a bit better or break it down into a trilogy.
Oh one other thing I disliked was if I heard the freaking phrase one more time I was going to fling the book across the room.
What I liked:
Overall I did enjoy the story, the characters and some of the banter was funny and kept me entertained. It is a fast paced book so even when I was frustrated and annoyed it was a very easy book to follow and read. The spice was decent.
so yes I'd still recommend and I would even recommend the audiobook.

If you love an angsty, emotional, second-chance rock star romance, The Words by Ashley Jade delivers in spades. This book follows Phoenix and Lennon, who first meet in high school when Lennon is assigned as Phoenix’s English tutor. Despite their differences—Lennon being the quiet, plus-size student and Phoenix the magnetic, bad-boy musician—they form a connection that feels inevitable… until Phoenix completely shatters it.
Fast-forward four years, and Phoenix is a famous rock star, but he’s on a downward spiral. Enter Lennon, who is brought in as his sober companion. Tensions run high, emotions are raw, and their past is impossible to ignore. This book is enemies to lovers at its absolute best—every interaction between Phoenix and Lennon is electric, and you can feel every ounce of their history bleeding into the present.
Ashley Jade doesn’t hold back on the angst, and this book made me cry multiple times. Phoenix is a mess, but he’s the kind of beautifully broken character you can’t help but root for. And Lennon? She’s incredible—strong, resilient, and refuses to let Phoenix destroy her again.
My only gripe? The ending. For a book that’s nearly 700 pages, it felt rushed or maybe even unfinished. Lennon lays out her plan, but we don’t really see it unfold, which left me feeling a bit unsatisfied. After such a deeply emotional journey, I wanted more closure.
That said, The Words is an unforgettable, gut-wrenching read that completely consumed me. If you love rock star romances with high stakes, incredible tension, and deeply flawed characters, this one is a must-read.
