I'm not crying, you're crying!

This is a lovely fantasy story with a heroine who solves her own problems (AND the man's problems, ha) and a charming Cardigan Corgi with mysterious connections and soft, spotted ears. A CORGI, I SAID! It's never a Corgi. Corgis are great, y'all. :)

I'm a sucker for books with dogs in them, especially herding dogs. So there's that.

The disease that was a threat in here (shedding rabies) was kinda terrifying to me. I can imagine what that might do to our dog population. That part of the book made me a little anxious.

The whole magically influenced battle at the end came & went kinda quickly.

But the book was easy to read and enjoyable.

I started reading this because it looked interesting but I couldn't get into it. It was all over the place I got about halfway through before I gave it up.

update June 2017: really enjoyed this book. the descriptions of Druid are absolutely adorable, and i love how he is a character on his own. i enjoyed the writing a lot, and i liked the way the plot played out. it wasn't what i was expecting, and i liked that slow unveiling and how it was tinged with horror. the first half is pretty slow, but it really picks up in the second half and gets really intense. enjoyed that roller coaster of a second half a lot.

This book is damn weird. And also very AWESOME. Read it and hang in there when things get weird- worth it.

I don't know what to say about this book. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I wanted at the moment, so I'm left with not much of an impression at all. It was about dogs, but that's about it. Be warned of animals dying, if you're going to read this. And that it's a bit slow.

Thoroughly enjoyed! A fresh and original plot concept (at least compared to most books I come across). Brenna was such a wonderful heroine, I adored her to pieces, her strength and no-nonsense attitude and her quirks were the best.

Star rating: 2 - 2.5 stars

What starts off as an enterprising idea in this novel, quickly peters itself out with boringly mundane writing. Nothing of any real consequence happens until the novel is almost completely over. Brenna has no real understanding of anything that's happening around her, so the entire book is filled with her doing her job and then puttering around her house. Top that boring jargon off with the most lackluster romantic plot ever and you've got a recipe for a book that falls flat on its face. The only reason I'm giving this novel 2 stars instead of 1 is because the writing isn't terrible, just horrendously boring.

This is one of my favourite books of 2016. The magic is subtle, but then creeps in to permeate the story. The mystery is fascinating. The main characters are truly wonderful. And a lot of this stuff centers around dogs and dog-grooming, so you *know* I'm instantly a fan of that. Everyone should read this gorgeously written novel.
