The second book as promised was much less problematic than the first book. The learning more about Auren and her background, and meeting Rip and his crew, added more to the story.
It was nice to see Auren not so stupidly obsessed with Midas and how he had protected her from the cruelty of the outside world, no girly fry he did not do that out of anything but selfishness.
We get to see more about Queen Malina, I really hope that the other does something different than to make her as bad if not worse than Midas, it would be nice to see a woman who had to give up power to a man retake it and show him she is better at it than he is. I suppose that is what Auren is for. But the power dynamics between Auren and Midas are such that it is more an escape from abuse, and succeeding against all odds, as opposed too, she was royalty, and he took her power and now she is taking that power back and truly doing something good with all that gold for her people. for once i would like a powerful woman a woman who wanted power to do so for the right reasons.
