Thank you to Netgally and the publisher for sending this to me for review!

This book suffers the fate of being marketed as many have before it as a thriller when it's not a thriller at all.

I found this story to be a bit all over the place, it's told from two points of view and we have a point of view from 1945 which I didn't even bother to read and didn't feel like I lost anything, I felt like this book was all over the place and didn't really flow well sadly. The story itself was OK but a bit bland and draggy.

I'm a mood reader and this story came at the right moment for my cravings for suspenseful stories.

Intriguing from the beginning, the characters are not likeable at all, in my opinion.

I felt like Emily deserved more my sympathy for caring more than she let out for her father and his well-being, even if she had to stay away for a longer time.

My first impression of Francoise was that this is one is up to no good. And that's probably the way the author wanted us to believe as well.

Rounding up, none of them are trustworthy and while their secrets and interaction are reliable enough, that long expected twist at the end felt really flat for me, unfortunately.

An intriguing story with unlikeable characters that kept me invested enough to read it in one sitting.

Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley

I was very quickly drawn into this domestic thriller, told from the viewpoints of the two women Emily and Franscoise.

Emily is a midwife but following a bad decision at work her job is in jeopardy. She goes to stay with her father to recover but when she arrives there is a young French woman living with her father. Why doesn’t she trust this woman, Franscoise? She is meant to be a live in carer but why is she so over familiar with her dad? What is she hiding?

There are lots of secrets to uncover from both of the women in this story as well as Emily's father. There are snippets of his time in the World War 2, when he was just a 15 year old boy, interspersed throughout the story. I found myself constantly changing my mind. Which woman was telling the truth and who was trustworthy? It really kept me guessing! Although not always likeable, the characters were well written and very believable.
An intriguing and immersive slow burn psychological thriller about family, friendship and love. I will definitely be looking out for other books by Jane Corry.

This was a twisty thriller/ family saga, following disgraced midwife Emily as she returns home to her Elderly father in Cornwall, only to find a beautiful French lady, Francoise, acting as his carer. Emily is immediately suspicious of Francoises motives.

Told from both Emily and Francoise view points, with interspersed memories from the past from both, you're really kept on your toes. Emily's father seems like a real piece of work who can't have been easy to grow up with, especially with what is revealed later in the book.

There's some reveals from both women which make them seem very suspicious, and I have to say I really liked the ending.

Overall a good thriller.

An engaging and well written family based crime novel with plenty of twists and turns. Told mainly from the viewpoint of two women , who may or may not be half sisters, I found myself changing my mind often about who the ‘baddie’ might be. First book I’ve read by this author but I’ll certainly look for others.
