love a short lil book. i picked this up bc the synopsis sounded like once upon a broken heart which i lovedddd. this book was so fantastical and whimsical. the pictures in the book gave me lifeee. 4.3 stars!

Finally! A book about fae where the fae are as creepy and off putting as they are in the fairy tales. I went into this with fairly low expectations and ended up ordering the second book before I had even finished.
The only thing that keeps this from being a five star read for me was the insta-lust, which just isn’t a trope I’m generally a fan of.

This isn’t Scarlett’s typical book. These short novels are written in the Grimm fairytale style. You know “she came upon a cabin in the woods and an old witch handed her a golden apple which turned into a flitting pixie and bit her so she threw her hair comb which turned into 100 knives” kind of thing where you are like, “ok and then what happened?” The magic is assumed and context-less. All of it is fantastical and magical and you just gotta trust. Alsooooo there is spice. It’s basically all the dark and grotesque fairytales from our childhood re-written for us big kids who want smex scenes in the Enchanted Forest.

This was an interesting twist. I liked that neither of them were heroes and they didn’t try to be good. I do wish there had been a little more development of the relationship though.
