206 Bones

Kathy Reichs

3.73 AVERAGE

Unique of the Bones novels I have read to date, the novel opens with Dr. Temperance Brennan waking up in a small enclosed space. Through the course of the novel, she tries to escape - as well as recall what led to her being there.

Some important issues are touches on. Non-certified or non-qualified investigators lead to screw-ups, even if their intentions are good. They compromise the integrity of investigations. In 206 Bones, it is taken to an extreme to illustrate a point.

Such a refreshing read. After so many school books, and "classics" this book was a welcome breath of fresh air. Reichs's language was fun and light, but professional when needed. The professional jargon did not weigh down the story line. It was a touch predictable, I came to the conclusion before the book had ended, but still an entertaining and quick read.

Sometimes I want to read thrillers for its gripping story and mysteries, to act the detective along with the characters. I think that's what kept me turning the pages of this book.

206 Bones started off pretty well and I got to learn more on bones in this book ( wish I had concentrated hard in my anatomy lessons).

The story was bland to me because I was lost at times and had so many distracting moments in the book.
I felt the focus of the book more on proving Brennan's competence than trying to find the killer.

Nevertheless, I liked this book because of the details which was crucial for the plot.

Would recommend if you are in the mood for a crime thriller that is easy to read, but don’t expect anything too unexpected or revolutionary. I did enjoy the book, but it is predictable. Pace of the book starts off slow, but really speeds up towards the end. An ok holiday read.

This one was quite full of suspense since you start out with Tempe trapped somewhere. The story is then told back and forth from the present where Tempe is trapped to the past where she's piecing together what happened to her. Things were a little predictable for me. I knew who the bad guy was concerning Tempe's kidnapping, but the case that she and Ryan were working on was just filler. It was boring and basically unnecessary for the plot.

I decided to read the Temperance Brennan books after watching the television show Bones. The two are similar but also very different, I enjoy both. Kathy Reichs has a very detailed but still interesting writing style. I do not understand all of the technical jargon but that does not detract from my reading enjoyment. Tempe and Ryan are great characters and my favorite parts of the books are when they are in a scene together especially if it is out in "the field".
