I might need to bump my rating for Illumimae down a quarter. Because I liked Gemina even more but I don’t want to give either of them five stars. I just love all the sciencey fiction shit. The exclamations of WHAT WAS THAT ENERRGY SURGE and the realisations of THE WIRES OF SPACETIME ARE TANGLED. One of my favourite characters is Captain Syra Boll. She is a woman after my own heart. I loved the vigilante/mercenary stuff. Especially the bit where Fleur/Kali was so convinced she could beat Hanna that she died. and I love that it all feels so offical with all the notes on the documents. And AIDAN is cool. You know what’s no cool? The formatting. I do not recommend reading this series as an ebook or on your phone.

Ooooh I liked this one. This very well could’ve been because I listened to this one rather than reading like I did the first. The audiobook is epic. And I was at the edge of my seat nearly the whole book.

Excuse me while I do my happy dance for completing book one on my tome topple TBR pile!

I think I would do the world a disservice if I didn't first inform anyone reading this that this book and its predecessor can lead the reader to have all the trust issues in the world. At first, I thought to myself "Oh, this could be read as a standalone." Then I got a couple hundred pages in and laughed at myself for being an idiot and thinking I know things. This book will legitimately hurt your feelings if you are like me and like to think you can figure out what happens next. I swear I can hear Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff just cackling as they write these and ruin the lives of the readers. It is possible that GRR Martin held a writing seminar on how to ruin the lives of your reader and these two attended and sat in the front row.
This book is filled with dynamic characters, some familiar and most new. I was a bit worried about picking this book up because I was unsure if it would be similar to Illuminae in story line. I just couldn't fathom what else they could possibly do. It's okay to laugh at my ignorance. My assumptions were false and I was actually very impressed by their ability to pull me into this plot with a seemingly new cast of characters to pointlessly attach myself to. This series is most definitely worth the read and come March I will be waiting to purchase Obsidio.

4.75 ☆ because I like illuminae just a smidge more. Gemina was very fast paced, leaving less room for anticipation and build up. Illuminae did have that.
But overall. I LOVED this book
But overall. I LOVED this book
Can I just say, my heart just went through torture? I enjoyed this book more than I enjoyed Illuminae. Although I found this story line a bit harder to follow because of the a certain plot point that just confuses me in general, I LOVED the characters. I love how they interacted each other and I found my self laughing aloud a few times, especially when Nik and Ella were talking to each other. I loved the bond between Nik and Ella, as well as Nik and Hanna's relationship. I enjoyed their banter and how they ended up caring for each other.
BUT, can we talk about this rollercoaster of emotional stress? Like you can't kill my babies then bring them back alive, then kill them again, then bring them back alive. I CAN'T HANDLE IT. My heart couldn't endure the torture through the last part of the book. I'm glad this book is over, so I can take a breather, but I NEED MORE IN MY LIFE NOW. Maybe I should read some fluffy romance book now to recover from this.
