Het begon goed. Miranda is een leuk personage, met een eigenzinnig karakter. Turner is minstens de helft van de tijd irritant, echt een onvolwassen jongetje. Naar het einde toe wordt het verhaal ook zwakker en zit het te vol met clichés.

I liked the characters well enough, especially Miranda and Olivia, but I was disappointed by the plot.
SpoilerI'm not a huge fan of the we-got-carried-away-and-now-the-lady's-virtue-is-besmirched-so-we-must-get-married plot device. Then throw in the pregnancy scare, and the final I-only-realized-I-loved-you-when-I-saw-our-baby nonsense and you've got a cliche trifecta.

This would've been actually good if it weren't for that HEA.

I really thought the reviews were just a bit over-reacting about the gaslighting, but color me corrected. The hero is a very self-centered and manipulative sonovabitch. Not to mention, borderline anti-feminist, he was actually contemplating not marrying the heroine because of her tendencies to fight for her gender. Okay! okay, he has history of being betrayed by his late wife and all that but that kinda is an uncommon occurrence in this time. And the story didn't fleshed his backstory enough for me to sympathize with him. And he just gaslighted his way into marriage, that is so damn disgusting!

I didn’t like the audiobook narrator, but I also think I’d feel the same if I read this physically. The hero was meh for me, and was such an asshole at times

I'm going to level here. This is the first Julia Quinn novel that I don't like. I liked some parts, but most of the story just...did not click with me.

I'm so sad. I wanted to like it. Miranda was a great heroine tho (for the most part).

Gooosh this one was ugly. Please ladies, skip this and read Olivia's book instead!!

So he nearly rapes her - she still loves him, then he seduces her - still fine, and after that he leaves her to the wolves. And even when he finally gets to his senses and marries her, he is still not able to tell her that he loves her. Pfff...
