An interesting twist on the standard Regency plot - we have a wedding earlier than usual but the HEA doesn't come until later. I deducted a point because I got tired of the 'he must say he loves me' story line. Yes of course he loved her (it's a romance/HEA), but she had no guarantee going into the wedding that it was necessarily the case.
But of course this was still an enjoyable read - it's from Julia Quinn after all.
Cover: A little blah, but interesting in its departure from the standard Regency cover (woman in fancy dress).
Narrator: She did the job adequately, but I just didn't really like her. She was too old, but I also found the quality of her voice to be unpleasant.
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: Miranda is a Ravenclaw, Turner is a Hufflepuff???
Themes: diary, childhood friends, family, London, Scotland, pregnancy

Set in 1800's in England. A young girl, Miranda, falls in love with her best friend's older brother. She begins to keep a journal. Miranda is not as beautiful as her friend but she is very smart, observant, and straight forward. This is a delightful book! Love the characters and it is an easy read. Lots of sarcasm! An amazing love story filled with laughter and years of falling in love. Terrific writing!
The beginning was too dark for me.

I really loved listening to this as an audiobook because of the amazing narrator telling the story! The story itself is sweet at times, sometimes it felt a bit rushed and forced.
Our protagonist Miranda is, at least for me, such a great character with a lot of depth, a sense of individuality and shows an interesting development in the book.
Turner as the troubled man did work for the plot, at times he was sadly rude and mean. But that’s all been part of the story building up so the duality of the characters worked great for the story.
Very interesting side characters as well!
I’ll definitely be reading the next Bevelstokes as well :)

"puss" is a dumb term of endearment and the entire plot was Turner being a complete jerk to Miranda and her pathetically pining after him.
