Not bad, but nothing that blew me away. I thought there was good character development and their motivations were well done. I don’t think I’ll continue the series.
I almost didnt get into this series vecause I don't like the Mercy Thompson books, but I'm glad I gave it a chance.
As others have said, it is advised that you read the novella first. I would say it's not absolutely necessary but it is the intro to the relationship.
That said, I did find parts of the story a bit frustrating/irritating. There's a lot of emphasis put on Charles' power, without much show. Other than eye contact. That dude can eye contact you to death.

If I could give a higher rating than 5, I would. I was thoroughly engrossed int he book, upset when I couldn't finish it when I wanted to, and the character development on different character's parts was amazingly well done. I am excited to continue reading about Anna and Charles in the next book.

Wattpad esque. Älskar. Skrivandet var lite sådär. Mycket upprepaden. Man hoppade rakt in vilket var konstigt. Fick precis reda på att det finns en novella companion till denna bok.... får väl läsa den. Kommer nog läsa alla. 13 åriga elin skriker.
Anna is a reluctant werewolf at the best of times but suddenly being pulled in to her new mate’s orbit makes her want to know everything about the magical world she inherits. Charles has been around a long time and learned to listen to Brother Wolf - and Brother Wolf wants Anna. Now they just have to make sure they live long enough to figure out if they even like each other.
This is advertised as the first novel in the series and this is an utter lie. It has a prequel short story that is more than a little necessary for this story to make sense. When we meet Anna and Charles they have already met and felt a pull for each other and are recovering from a massive fight…
Which made it a hard place to jump into the book. The reader never gets a meet-cute and honestly doesn’t feel a ton of heat through the whole thing. This was my first urban fantasy - and I am still confused about how it is different from paranormal romance but that is a different conversation.
There were parts I was fascinated by in the story - but those were side stories and IMO - didn’t get the time they deserved. (Maybe they are other stories?) Unlike with Rebecca Zanetti’s Fated - I didn’t feel the need to go back to the world and see what else happens. I will read the prequel short story (just called Alpha and Omega.)
I wasn’t sure about Anna but she won be over with being a gentle heroine but I was still slightly unsure about Charles? I didn’t dislike him but I definitely didn’t fall for him. There did seem to be a lot of references to violence against women - specifically Anna - but it didn’t happen on the page.
NOTE: Above was written before I read the prequel…. I love the prequel and it gave this story weight. Le Sigh - still not my favorite but better than I felt about it before.
