me waiting for something interesting to happen
This book is not for me. It's not fast paced or interesting at all. At least with Outlander you got a history lesson and what plants not eat but, here nada.
*side note* M*A*S*H is one favorite shows of all time and if there was Alan Alda-esque person within my age range they and I would be together forever.
adventurous mysterious

Edit: read book 0.5 first

The world of Cry Wolf is rich in lore. At the beginning of the book, you think it’s gonna be a solid romance story but it turns into such a wonderful mystery. The books main character is named Ana and she has been werewolf for three years. The fact that she is a part of forced her to become a werewolf. And this world werewolves are only made with consent. I also loved the main protagonist Charles. I like the Native American representation in this book.

Before you read the book, be sure to check out the trigger warnings because there is a lot of reference to SA. Nothing on screen, but it is referenced.

We get to explore the world through many different points of view. For some reason this book gave me serious court of thorns and roses vibes. Not the necessary story but the idea of family. All the characters that are introduced you want to know more about their backstory. All the side characters have little bits of that throughout the book that makes you want to follow their stories too.

This book surprised me with the amount of world building. There’s minions of witches, vampires, ghouls, fae, and many other paranormal species. we get to explore more of the different species and cultures.

The Cornicks

2 take aways
1. Anna + Charles

I was happy to learn some background information about supporting characters from the Mercy Watson series. I especially like the writing style and the fact that Briggs doesn't need gratuitious sex or violence to make Anna or Charles interesting. Anna is an Omega- which means that she is not bound by the same submissiveness that other werewolves are. She isn't an alpha either. Instead, she has the power to calm and comfort other weres, and they feel the need to open up to her emotionally.

Now that she has been freed from an abusive alpha, she has been taken in by Charles- son of the Marrock of North America. Charles understands Anna's abilities, and tries to help her recover and recognize her potential. They are doing well until a psychotic witch with a vendetta shows up and decides to take over the world. (Cue creepy foreboding music).

I’ve read the Mercy Thompson series and this did not disappoint! I’m excited to learn more about Charles and the Aspen Creek wolves!

Random summer re-reads from Mercy's world are sooo much fun!

Anna is battered but not broken and Charles is the perfect mate for her!! I love this side series to Mercy Thompson! So well written and the pace is wonderful!! This is a great start to what I am sure will be a favorite series!!
