This book landed a bit flat. The characters felt a bit one-dimensional and with Charles claiming he believes in God, it felt off. I don't think any Native American person would ever agree with a Christian god, not with the horrible history they've experienced. I wish the author would have added more elements to make the Native parts more genuine and interesting instead of just as a character trait.

I love Anna and Charles so much and the development of their relationship in this book. I also really love that we get both of their POVs, the only thing missing for me in the Mercy books. The closer look at the Marrok pack, Bran himself, the politics - both pack-wise and in Bran's decision to reveal the werewolves - are all so interesting in these books, but especially in this one where we see everything through Anna's eyes as someone relatively new to being a werewolf and meeting Bran for the first time.

The witches are so scary in this series, it's so good.
