“But when it comes to basic human rights issues—like trans bathroom laws, affordable health care, or same-sex marriage—agreeing to disagree feels nearly impossible. An opinion stops being “just an opinion” when it supports the mistreatment or oppression of others.”

I know that this was recommended somewhere on the Internet as a funny audiobook. Now I can’t find my source, but I wish I could. Not that this book wasn’t funny, but I need to pay more attention to my sources for reviews. I am almost 65 years old and a book written by a 35-year-old about being a YouTube sensation may not be as funny for me as for a 35-year-old. Mostly this is my fault, I don’t keep up with YouTube and much of social media at all.

I guess I could have stopped listening since this was not exactly what I was looking for, but I just couldn’t let go. One of the reasons I became a librarian was because I like learning. Ramsey taught me a lot. I might not need to know about MTV’s program Decoded or Ramsey’s hairstyling videos, but this is a world I will never be native to. So, learning a few things from a digital native didn’t hurt.

The other thing I learned is to pay more attention to the type of person who is suggesting an audio. I may not understand the context well enough to get all the jokes.

This is so funny!! I know so many people like myself that need to give this book a listen (or a read if you're not into audio books, though hearing it in Franchesca's voice is great). Franchesca reminds those of us who deem ourselves as "woke" that all of us are on different parts of the path, and all of us are human. She shares her blunders as well as her moments of clarity, and they're all so real you can't help but gasp or laugh or roll your eyes or cringe because you've been that person, too. I love this book, and I highly recommend anyone who prides themselves on shutting (!) people (!) down (!) *cough* me *cough* use this as a check-in point to remember where we've been and just how far we have to go.

I loved it

This book exceeded my expectations (which were already high as a kite). So proud of Chesca's journey and can't wait to see what she does next. Quick and easy read, extremely funny. The do's and dont's of activism broken down in only a way Chesca's could!

A self aware journey into being more woke about social justice issues. Engaging and entertaining.

It's an quick, entertaining book that uses an autobiography to illustrate a how-to guide or provides a how-to guide to balance the autobiography. I feel like I've read a couple books in this little subgenre and generally find them entertaining enough, but can't help thinking that either the autobiography or the how-to guide would have been better without the split focus.

Franchesca Ramsey has written an open, honest, wonderfully written book that, in addition to holding herself accountable, teaches people how to navigate in an online world that is becoming more and more important. She doesn't hold back from explaining her mistakes and showing how she's learned and grown from them. There's a lot we can learn from her, and I'm glad she wrote this. It taught me a lot and pointed me in the right direction to keep learning. Thank you Ms. Ramsey!

I laughed and I learned a lot. It was awesome and comforting to hear from someone who didn't really know what they were doing when their activism started, who learned as she went, and who consistently strives to learn more and do better.

I wish I had read this sooner because the chapter about her now ex husband just reads as very, very awkward now.

That being said, I could hear Ramsey's voice while reading this even though I was reading the hardcover and not an audiobook. I hope she does a follow up because so much has changed since this was published in 2018.
