Overall, I enjoyed this book. I think that the world building got a little heavy in some places, otherwise, the story was told very well. I liked the ending, which is a huge deal for me. My biggest nitpick was the love triangle thrown in haphazardly in this book. I think if there were to be more prospects of love for Maddie they would have been in the first or second book. Otherwise, nicely done.

It took me awhile to gather my thoughts on this book. This is, by far, one of the most difficult reviews I have written. This book brought endless ideas and questions to my mind. This series, as a whole, has had such an impact on me.
When I opened the book, the first thing that hit me was the writing. It's been so long since I read the second book, and I forgot how beautiful and thought-provoking the writing style is. The first page reminded me. It started off by comparing Maddie and those she cared about to the elements, herself being water. It was beautifully written and combined with the rest of the story perfectly.
Then there were the characters. It amazes me how unique, how human, how well thought out they all were. I loved watching the story unfold and seeing the changes in them, especially Maddie. She really found herself throughout the series, and especially in this book. There was a decision she made at the end that would usually bother me, and I saw it coming. I expected to disagree with her, but instead I saw her reasons. I agreed with them, and when the time came I was hoping for the same outcome as she was. I found myself behind Maddie one-hundred percent, cheering her on. She grew confident in herself and her decisions, and so was I.
Overall, there's no way for me to give this less than five stars. It's one of those special, rare books that deserve more than that, because it will stick with me - and I feel that I'm not the only one who will feel that way about this series. It says so much about technology, about the world, and about people.

Disappointing end to the series.
A love triangle is introduced halfway through. I wasn't upset about the presence of a love triangle, but to introduce one halfway through the last book in a series is just too weird.
And this one was just too anti-technology. Especially ironic for a book that's only published in ebook format.

This book honestly ruined my life. I was so excited to read this book, I read it in about 2 hours, and half way through they introduce a love triangle? Wtf? Maddie was supposed to end up with Justin not some random she met a week ago. It tore me to shreds that my otp didn't end up together I hate you Katie you ripped my heart out

Was war das denn bitte schön für ein vollkommen unrealistisches und einfach nur BEKNACKTES Ende??
Die ersten beiden Bücher waren wundervoll! Und dann kam dieses Buch dahergelaufen und hat die ganze Trilogie zerstört.
Um eins mal klarzustellen: Ich mochte die ersten zweihundert Seiten oder so. Danach ging es nur noch bergab. Überhaupt stört mich das verdammte Beziehungsdreieck, das so unnötigerweise hier auftaucht. WARUM? Ich fand bei dieser Trilogie echt toll, dass es nicht zu einem Beziehungsdreieck im zweiten Buch kam...UND DANN MUSSTE ER UNBEDINGT IM DRITTEN TEIL AUFTAUCHEN????? SAGT MAL, WOLLT IHR MICH VERARSCHEN???!!!

Und sie entscheidet sich dann auch noch für Jax.Versteht mich nicht falsch, ich habe nichts gegen Jax, aber die Autorin hat uns von Anfang an dazu gebracht, Justin zu lieben und dann kommt Jax einfach so daherspaziert, das ganze Element-Wasser-Gelaber (fand ich richtig bescheuert und verwirrend) und schwuppdiwupps rettet plötzlich der Kuss zwischen Maddie und Jax die ganze Welt.
Ich verstehe einfach nicht, wieso es der Kuss war, der dafür gesorgt hat, das die DS-Gegener gewinnen. So ein Kuss hätte mich, wenn ich der Welt von Maddie gelebt hätte, echt nicht überzeugt. Wirklich nicht.
Ich hör mit meinem Gemecker jetzt mal auf, sonst geht das noch Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewigkeiten weiter und ich zerstör noch im schlimmsten Fall das Buch.

Die ethischen und philosophischen Ansätze wurden in diesem Buch eigentlich recht gut verpackt, nur leider fand ich sie nicht mehr ganz aktuell, was vielleicht auch daran lag, dass das Buch und die Idee 2010 "entstanden" sind. Es wurde schon so viel über die Digitalisierung diskutiert, dass mir die Argumente nicht mehr neu waren und ich sie somit eben auch nicht interessant fand. Ja, es gab schöne Passagen aber insgesamt blieb der Band zu blass.
Auch auf der Inhaltsebene, denn auch der hielt nicht viel neues bereit. Ich habe auch teilweise Seiten übersprungen um mal ein bisschen voran zu kommen und das Ende fand ich dann etwas abgehoben.
Der einzige Lichtblick war wirklich Jax, den ich im Gegensatz zu Justin tatsächlich gern hatte.
Fazit: Leseempfehlung für zwischendurch oder weil man, wie ich, den Drang hat diese Reihe doch zu beenden. Es ist insgesamt ein mittelmäßiger 2,5s Abschluss. Wenn ihr ohne große Erwartungen ran geht, wird es sicherlich nicht allzu enttäuschend.

This series was incredible with a original plot. I fell in love with Awaken from the first page and i never looked back.
Unfortunately this book just didn't hit that high note that i thought it would.
All the build up just suddenly fell flat and completely brushed aside. It was such a shame and i'm actually annoyed at how much i didn't like this book.
