4.5 stars rounding up.
I love these books! As soon as I read " Once Persuaded, Twice Shy" I looked up to see if this author had any other books. This one is based on Jane Eyre. These books are so up my alley that I had to give it 5 stars. I could read 10 more of them please. I loved the modern take of a Toronto Law Firm. I enjoyed all of the Toronto references growing up there. Even to the Kitchener Waterloo reference where she goes to university ( where I live now!). I loved Jane and Edward in this book. It held tightly to Jane Eyre but in a modern way. I could see someone who isn't a Austen/Bronte fan thinking the conversations and reasoning a bit much but that's what makes it seem like you are reading Austen/Bronte. I hope there are more of these books! ( I could do with a Sense & Sensibility!).

Jane really is that bitch

Re-read 2024. Still amazing!

Absolutely AMAZING! One of my favorite books I’ve read in a long while. It takes a phenomenal book to get me out of a reading slump and this one definitely did the trick. I love the dedication to Jane Eyre and the author’s unique ways of modernizing both the plot and the characters. A pleasure to read from the first line to the last.

I adored this. The author's writing style is as down to earth and honest as Jane always tries to be with herself. The characters are well fleshed out, Jane and Edward especially. It was a lot of fun reading how they met, her working relationship with him, their eventual relationship and the fall out when she learns his secret. They are well paired as they are opposites in many ways - Jane is practical, cautious, calm, collected, determined and resilient. Edward is a loud, blunt, whirlwind of a man who intimidates every assistant hired for him and is a brilliant lawyer who has no patience for the incompetence of others. But he is also caring, passionate and seeks to do the right thing for the employees of his law firm. The dialogue between Jane and Edward is wonderfully done, as Jane gets used to her boss and let's some of her own snarky side out to play, which Edward enjoys. Overall, I think Melodie Edwards did a great job bringing Jane Eyre into a 21st century setting. If she writes more books, I would be interested in reading them.

I absolutely loved this book! I could not put it down. I have never read Jane Eyre (don't hate on me) and I think with retellings I prefer to have not read the original. I love Little Women and I have tried modern retellings of it and I just cannot get through them. However, if I have not read the original I seem to like the retelling for the book that it is. Having said that, I listen to a podcast called Novel Pairings and they discuss classics and modern books that you could read instead of or as a companion to the original classic. So I listened to their podcast about Jane Eyre so I knew the story going into this book. I know it took the surprises away but I liked that I knew what would happen. I was okay with that. So Edward is a lawyer and Jane is his assistant. His assistants never last so she takes it as a challenge and then of course they start having feelings for one another. I like romances where both main characters are a little broken and need to work through some things. I will not give the twists away but I thought this was well done. Had I not known Jane Eyre I probably would have thought things were a little too convenient for Jane and Edward but the author had to stay with the original text so I thought it was great. The book also gives nods to Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte and that was fun.

-"I knew you liked me."
"I tolerate you, Mr. Rosen."

-"I've never kissed a wailing woman before and it's killing my confidence."

-Protection was in having the information, not being guarded from it, however bad it might be.

-My own two feet are steadier than I realized.

After reading a rave review by a trusty friend I knew I had to get my hands on this one….

Shortly after receiving it I had a moment of not knowing what to pick up so I decided to peruse the first chapter in Jane & Edward an hour later I was a 100 pages in and fully invested in these two’s story.

Blurb…
This powerful reimagining of Jane Eyre, set in a modern-day law firm

I must confess I have never read Jane Eyre but felt know need to have known anything about the classic to enjoy this gem! I will say I am

this was so stinking cute. What a great reimagining; felt similar enough to make connections, but also have a fresh take on the classic. These two characters were perfect for each other!

I really enjoyed this book. I think having not read Jane Eyre before I was probably missing out on some things that made the story that much enjoyable for readers who have read it cause they could pull back to the original classic.

I loved Jane’s character. She was ever changing and growing but also a strong person who knew what she wanted and isn’t afraid to go for it when the time is right for her.

I do wish we got more cute moments with Edward and Jane. I think this is a testament to Jane Eyre cause it most likely did focus on Jane the main character rather than being a book filled with tons of romantic fluff. But either way it was a solid book.
