Very silly story. Got us through the line and an oil change.

So good! It has the repetition of those Daisy books but with better language and funnier. There's that same confusion where everyone is thinking different things and no one understands each other... But it makes more sense and is little more obvious. The characters are all funny and you learn just enough about their personalities to have a good giggle.
As my book friend Alie says,
Who doesn't love a pig who lives buttered toast?!? I want to know what mercy does next!

Ben loved this one- we've read it a few times now. It'll be perfect for him to do independent once he's reading a little more fluently.

The kids loved Mercy Watson (especially because I felt that all of the characters needed some sort of southern accent)... the storyline was fine, the verbage was pretty good for younger readers, but the names (Eugenia specifically) were a little challenging for new chapter book readers. My two loved the storyline and the illustrations, tho!

Goodreads list function is leading me to read all sorts of books that would otherwise pass me by! And that would be a shame, because this is both charming and funny. And strangely relatable - we all know those people who think their pets are smarter than they appear. (Unfortunately I'm not one of them, I'm all too aware my cat could be out-thought by a pineapple.) But Mercy's owners are so certain of their greedy pet's genius that they're all too convinced that the animal they so closely resemble (ha!) has saved their bacon. When really, Mercy's motivations are a lot more... piggish.

Mercy Watson is fabulous! The large text, repetitive language, and bright illustrations are perfect for young readers. Kate DiCamillo will always be one of my favorite writers - she creates such simple but magical tales. This is no exception.

Getting kiddo into chapter books. This is a step simpler than the Deckawoo Drive books but similarly charming and inoffensive and suchforth. I like them.

In this first Mercy Watson chapter book, fun hijinks ensues when the buttered-toast-loving pet pig Mercy must save her owners/parents Mr. and Mrs. Watson from an unfortunate, dangerous situation. Perfect for transtional readers. Great, glowing illustrations.

Cute series for early readers, which are a lot of fun. More Kate DiCamillo is always welcome in my library!
