This is the first of a series of stories about a suburban pig whose owners dote on her as she gets into scrapes with a crochety neighbor, all in the quest for more toast with a great deal of butter on it. The fire fighters called to help sort things out have recurring roles in subsequent books as well. There are frequent (and high quality) color illustrations to help younger children visualize what's going on.

We read this in one sitting. Super quick and even Eve paid attention the whole time. She begged for the second book the next night. It's a cute and funny story. Mercy, the pig, lives with his human mom and dad who are very protective of him. They think he is capable of many amazing things and assume he is the one who saves the day when they get stuck on their bed, which is slowly sinking through a hole in the floor. In reality a strange series of events allows for their rescue.

The pictures in this book are great. It reads like a long picture book more than a chapter book, in my opinion. I enjoyed it, but didn't really see a point. There was nothing amazing or memorable about it, as I assumed there would be because I have seen this series recommended in various settings. However, it was cute and the kids loved it. I call that a win!

My three year old loved it and it’s a perfect first chapter book as there are big illustrations and short chapters. Silly and engaging.
