Great story but what does it mean? Would love to discuss. Thanks to the reader who pointed out the apple v. pear tree. Totally missed it on the first read. LOVE the dog!!

This book is ridiculously fun to read. And it must be looked at, not just listened to. The text on its own is deceptively simple, but presented with the pictures, the story is as much an adventure for the readers as for Sam and Dave. My nephews and I read it together - laughing and yelling "whoa!" - with each page turn. One nephew demanded that we read it again, multiple times in a row. Recommended for anyone who's ever wanted to find something spectacular.

This is one of my favorite books to read aloud with Novel Effect. It's also one of the few picture books that sixth graders will appreciate. Therefore, that makes this superior to most picture books. I could read this book a million times and never get tired of it. Not to mention how spooky it is that Sam and Dave discover a new dimension without realizing it...

Ingenious.

I'm loving the Barnett/Klassen dynamic duo of awesomeness! Klassen's illustrations turn this book into creepy, wonderful science fiction.

This book. Just... what?! Klassen's illustrations are stunning.

Mooie synergie tussen verhaal en illustraties.
De illustraties maken het verhaal af omdat je als lezer altijd net iets meer weet dan Bas en Daan.
Laat je daarnaast verrassen door het open, verwonderlijke einde.

I am an elementary school librarian. This simple, short book is a huge hit with all of the young children ( ages 4-8). The kids are fully engaged with the characters, yelling out instructions and exclamations throughout the story.

The cutest book! My 7yo read this out loud to me. We both loved the illustrations and laughed at the story! Sam & Dave are quite the pair- a spectacular pair, one might say!
