I love Poirot. I've read 34 of the books about him, but this one isn't my favourite. The stories are fine, but it doesn't show off how amazing Poirot ACTUALLY is. THe stories are kind of a really diluted juice, you get the flavour of Poirot, but not it's goodness! Don't skip this one if you want to read them all, but don't start with this one, you'll only get disappointed.
Poirot, contemplating retirement, is inspired by his own name to take on 12 last cases - all to be aligned to the 12 Labours of Hercules. This leads to a book of 12 crimes. Some were really good / clever, others were a bit weak, and some were almost fantastical considering all the coincidences

Not my most favourite Agatha Christie book. Thoroughly enjoyed cases 2, 3 and 6 but I felt some of the other cases were too predictable and/or just didn't have enough base for their conclusions.

Different - a collection of loosely connected (and loosely interpreted) short stories. The majority of the 12 labours I enjoyed and found cleverly worked out. Some felt slightly too on the nose (I.e. repeated references to a boar and a bull respectively when it may not have been called for). All in all still enjoyable but certainly not among my favourite Christie books as it lacks the build up, suspense, and a grand reveal.
