how could you not give a book written in 1847 and still applicable to modern life in 2024 a 5 war rating? also doesn't help my ap research project was heavily influenced by this wonderful piece of work. one day I will crawl into the minds of the Bronte sisters and have a ball.

Jane Eyre is a character of superior independence, morality and integrity. She's a strong role model of feminism and similar movements that emphasize human rights and social equality. Though sometimes overwhelmed by affections such as love, she didn't let it control her mind and mess things up. She held her virtues and beliefs, something that she learned from the horrible parts of her childhood. In the end, she achieved happiness, and well, you can't hate a happy ending when it was all deserved.

Some things I didn't like:
1. Some chapters are so tedious that they made me sleepy. There are a lot of unnecessary paragraphs too.
2. The coincidences.
3. I still don't know how did Jane's view on St. John change that quickly. He became so important that he took up the ending paragraph.

I don't care. It's still good.

пїЅпїЅпїЅI am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.пїЅпїЅпїЅ

I’ve had this book on my bucket list for years. Despite being a pretty prolific reader , i haven’t read many classics but i always wanted to read Jane Eyre. On a podcast i love , multiple people have mentioned JE as a top 3 book and i decided that now is as good a time as any to just read this.
For the most part , i listened to the audiobook (narrated by Nadia May) and i think it helped tremendously .
As far as the actual novel goes - wow. This is an incredible story . The story telling is fantastic and the language - does take a little time to get used to- is beautiful , descriptive and enthralling .
Even though this was written roughly 170 years ago , i knew surprisingly little about the story of Jane eyre. It made for a fantastic reading experience . I am not much of a re-reader but I’m already looking forward to reading this again some day .
Charlotte Brontë was a gifted story teller . I’m so glad i didn’t just abandon my goal of reading this book.

I know this book was ahead of its time with Jane choosing her independence over everything else but please tell me I wasn’t the only one bored out of my mind through 1/2 of it.

I wanted more of Helen Burns.
