I remember my mom reading these to me and so I just enjoy the nostalgia of it.
The characters are very one-dimensional. They are either good or bad without any middle ground. Rather annoying reading for an adult, but I’m sure children (the intended audience) would find it enjoyable.
4 stars. I haven’t read the original yellow spine Nancy Drew series since I was a little girl so it was wonderful revisiting and starting all over. I thoroughly enjoyed and am shocked how well this has held up. It’s an intriguing case, Nancy is very likable and so smart and I just had a really great time reading this and I’m looking forward to reading this series again.

I'm rereading some of my favorite Nancy Drew books for a panel that I'm on at the Malice Domestic conference. I haven't read this one since 1977. Lots of memories. The girl sleuth inspired my love of mysteries.
*3.5
I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery book. I’m such a big fan of the Nancy Drew Diaries and the Nancy Drew Files, and although I can’t say that I like this as much as those ones, I still did really like it. I also understand that this was the first Nancy Drew book to be ever published, so I think that it was a solid start to the wild journey, although a bit boring at times for me personally. However I really enjoyed the father-daughter relationship and the characters of Grace and Allison.

Simple, but enjoyable! Easy mystery and not many stand out characters, but I enjoyed the sweet small town atmosphere :)
