Pasé un muy buen momento con esta serie. Me dejó un pequeño retrogusto triste, pero bien
Closer to 3.5-3.75. It was good but not as good as the first two. Finales are hard and that’s understandable but this didn’t seem to pack quite the same punch as the first two and unfortunately was a bit predictable at times. The stakes didn’t feel real sadly. Still enjoyed this book and series. The first one holds a special place in my heart.

The ending to this series was fantastic. Amani was such a strong female character, and we finally got a great romance scene with Jin and Amani. The Shazard and Amani reunion was EVERYTHING, can we say badass female characters? I’m telling you I sobbed through the whole scene with Amani and her dad. Also, I just wish the ending told us a little bit more about Amani and Jin, did they have children? Did Ahmed end up with anyone, did Shazard? What did the twins father give their mother as a wish??? Ugh I wish I knew!

This is one of the best series finales I have read. I love how we could easily see Amani's character evolution from a "selfish Dustwalk girl" to a brave Rebellion leader. Her relationship with Jin is stronger than ever, and the author never tries abusing the miscommunication trope or creating a love triangle with the two of them just to spice things up, which is really refreshing for this genre.
I also like how the author didn't shy away from showing us the real costs of the war; I won't go into spoilers for this review but, needless to say, no one is truly safe and plot armour isn't a thing.
Last but certainly not least, I really liked how the author continued sprinkling third person pov chapters that tell the action through the lens of an ordinary storyteller or "background character", as they really add a sort of whimsical, fairytale-like layer to the story, while also asking the reader to think more deeply about the fine line between fiction and history.
The one thing stopping me from giving it a full 5 stars is the fact that the protagonist's impulsive - and often stupid- choices are still rewarded by the narrative. She lets go of her selfish impulses, but otherwise doesn't seem to truly learn her lesson when it comes to her tendency not to think things through.

I really wanted to give this a 5 star, but Hamilton seemed to all too easily dispose of certain characters I had grown quite attached too! Why?! 😂 Other than that, the world building was amazing and I really enjoyed this band of rebellious characters. This book had middle eastern vibes, mixed with some sharp shooting, magic, romance and a lot of fun adventure :)
