Hero at the Fall

I was so happy to attend the launch for this book and meet Alwyn Hamilton - she is such a lovely person, and a brilliant author! Hero at the Fall was a really nice ending to a great trilogy. I'm really sad to leave these characters, especially Amani, because I really enjoyed them all. The start of this book was a little slow, but it soon picked up pace. I really love Alwyn Hamilton's way of interweaving stories into the main text, and the last chapter was written especially well. It was powerful and concluded the series fittingly.

As usual, the twists and turns were great, although I preferred Traitor to the Throne in this respect. I did feel like this finale was lacking in ways that 'Traitor' was strong. For example...
Spoiler the Sultan (as a primary antagonist) felt too non-existent for my liking in this book. In 'Traitor', the Sultan was an immense psychological presence, and a formidable one. This was not continued in 'Hero', and I felt the lack of it. The Sultan ended up coming across weaker than I would have liked him to be, as the main villain of the series.

Overall I have really enjoyed this series, and I will definitely come back to it in the future. The journey taken by Amani from Rebel of the Sands to Hero at the Fall now feels very complete. The fact that these books are not overly complicated works in their favour, as you can become really immersed in the story without being bogged down by inconsequential details. At the launch for 'Hero' I got some insight into the writing and creative efforts behind these books, and it made me love them even more. I'm looking forward to seeing where Alwyn Hamilton goes next!

Thoroughly enjoyed this whole series!!

This book was amazing!
I am so sad that the series is over now but Alwyn Hamilton did such a good job writing this conclusion ❤️

I adored every second of it. I laughed and cried so hard! (and I almost never cry while reading).

4.5 estrelas.
Nem tenho palavras para esta trilogia fantástica! Uau!

I love Amani. She's just such a great main character. I love her struggle between what she wants and what she knows she has to do. I kind of identify with her on this and it was great to know that no matter what, she would keep following what she knew she had to even if it meant losing what she wanted. She's just so strong and badass.

Greatest scene of Hero at the Fall??? A ship navigating through the desert !!! LOVED IT.

Let me also tell you that I'm the hugest fan of this kind of romance where you can really tell they care for each other (like a lot) but they just keep on doing their own lives, not pressuring, not asking for anything from each other. Not gonna lie, it can be frustrating at times, for us readers, but we just know they're gonna be end game and that makes everything super sweet. I LOVE JINANI.

It still surprises me how I got to care for so many characters, really. Amani, Jin, Ahmed, Shazad, the twins, Sam, Noorsham. No need to say I was a biiiiiiiit sad for some things that happened to some of these charactes (I think you know what I mean Alwyn Hamilton, even tho the list is long xD).

I think some things in here were just waaaay too convenient, however, there were also scenes mastered beautifully. That end scene in the cavern was so emotionally well put into words - I confess, I shed some tears.

Again, I'm a big fan of Alwyn's writing and I'm already craving some more from these characters, I'm gonna miss them.

PS. That final chapter was a great way to end :D
