This was a thoroughly enjoyable series, start to finish. Good writing, good storytelling.

Îmi întinsesem deja mâna după armă când am recunoscut fața Sarei deasupra mea, ivindu-se cu claritate și apoi dispărând, din pricina ochilor împăienjeniți de oboseală. Am slăbit strânsoarea degetului de pe trăgaci. Nu era un dușman, era doar Sara, paznicul Casei Ascunse. Ținea în mână o lampă micuță care îi lumina doar fața. Pentru o clipă, păru doar un cap desprins de trup, plutind în întuneric, precum cele din visul care se stingea acum, căci mă trezeam. Imin, purtând chipul lui Ahmed, îndreptându-se de bunăvoie spre locul de execuție.
Verișoara mea Shira strigându-și revolta în timp ce era forțată să îngenuncheze în fața eșafodului.
Ayet, cu ochii înecați de nebunie, așteptându-și moartea, după ce-i storseseră sufletul. Ranaa, copilul demdji, care ținuse soarele în mâini și care murise răpusă de un glonț rătăcit, într-o luptă pe care n-ar fi trebuit s-o poarte. Bahi, care murise ars de viu în fața mea, de mâna fratelui meu.

Amani voelde anders aan, het verhaal gaat vele kanten op zonder echt een doel te hebben. Het einde was zelfs een anti climax. Helaas....

i loved the chapters in third person and how they almost had a fairytale type of vibe
i enjoyed the worldbuilding, (thought it was a bit soft and i would have loved to see more of what the Albish can do) and it was probably my favorite part of the book
i find amani a bit irritating but i adore jin
Spoiler i found the "pick a prince to die" thing a bit rushed and i found sam's death unnecessary when alwyn had just built up his relationship with shazad

What a fantastic conclusion to Amani's story! This book was everything I expected it to be, and then some.
Looked forward to this book....and it kind of fell flat for me. I wanted to enjoy every bit of this book, but it just seemed overdone at times. The world building was not there, the characters kind of had plateaued from the last book, and there wasn't a lot of growth for them. The romance was barely there, it peaked around the corner every once in a while, but was lacking.
I liked this series, the characters were enjoyable, and the magic was fun. It was a fun series, just not a favorite.
