In this finale Amani is pushed into the leadership role when the others are captured and Jin is unwilling to step up to the position. Their numbers are severely dwindled and we are left with a small group trying to escape the town and rescue their friends. They have no idea where the others are being held captive and they do not have the numbers to save them in the event of a confrontation. Instead Amani and her crew must focus on gaining allies before attempting to rescue Ahmed and the others.
Amani struggles with the burden of her role and the decisions that comes with. In her quest to get her people out of the city and on their way to find an army she is forced to make extremely difficult calls and meets a lot of pushback from her team, especially Jin who is focused on saving his family.

This book is more action packed than the second as the team runs through Miraji uncovering the heroes and villains of their legendary stories. Amani shows immense development in her role and begins to accept the burden and responsibility that being a leader means. However, Jin I feel remains an emotionally stunted toddler. I do not think that his character develops much at all and people continue to just let him get away with being a prick.
I love the way the author ties in the legends of the characters as they are told in the future and that the ending was not just tied up in a clean optimistic bow, instead covering more about what happens with the town and the people. This book was far more emotional and there were parts where I was screaming internally and crying externally for the characters.

What an incredible ending to this dazzling trilogy!!!

What an amazing conclusion to the series! I have no words to describe what I'm feeling. Loved the character development, they have all come a long way since book 1. I was heartbroken with some deaths like Sam. He was such a sweetheart and I cried when he died. Noorsham was another character I wished had survived. Hala was great even though bitchy at times.
It also annoyed me to see people like Leyla survive who deserved a gruesome death. But it shows that this is the way of life. Not all good people live to grow old and not all evil ones die soon.
Loved Izz and Maz, I'm glad Amani and Jin survived. Ahmed, Rahim and Shazad are amazing too. Delilah deserved more recognition though.
I feel a sense of emptiness since the book is over. I wish there was more to read about what the characters' adventures, but I'm glad the way it ended. I'd definitely recommend this series to all.

Such a beautiful ending, loved they storyteller way of writing. Actually crying.

4.5 Stars

This was brutally amazing. I may have Jin-withdrawal for a while.

This review contains spoiler for ACOWAR, ACOMAF, and City of Glass, and also this book.
the spoilers for this book wont be until the end, and I'll give a heads up.

This was a great end to a trilogy.

The beginning of this book was very hard to get through, because it was bleak, and depressing as hell.

Leaders of the rebellion are gone, and Amani is put in charge

They're all trapped in the city and they don't know how to get out.

But then the story picks up. and it gets more interesting. and they travel, and then it becomes great

they're on a mission to take over the throne, to kill the sultan. They start off with six people, and by the end of the book they have an army.

We find out what happens to everyone. People that were previously missing are seen again.

okay, look

This is a rebellion. This is war. and People died. so many people sacrificed themselves

one person died so they wouldn't be enslaved

another person dies to get their friend to safety

someone else dies to save the person they believe in

plans go wrong.

People died for this rebellion.

There's this quote I want to share from the book.

"That was what we did. Survive one fight to get to the next. Over and over again until you didn't survive. And all that you could hope for when dying was that some people wouldn't have to see another fight. That eventually, somewhere, this country would find peace."

Amani doesn't really think things through, because she has to make decisions rapidly. She never gets a chance to consider the consequences. But she gets it done
everyone was willing to die for what they believed in. and some did.

this book can get harsh.
sometimes hope is bleak

but man.

what an ending.

anyway. my point is.

people in the rebellion have been dying since book 1.

and what is this, S J Maas, that somehow all the main characters are still alive in book 5.5?
i mean except for that one person...

but still

how is it that no one has died along the way?
how is it that in Acowar, all the main characters are still alive???
I mean, sure, in Acomaf, you got kind of a tragic ending,
but like,
bruh

why does no one die?

everyone gets a happy ending!
I dont want everyone to have a happy ending!

This book, Hero at the Fall, broke my heart at one point. It was beautiful!

oh I cried.

they worked so hard. they went to hell and back. they lost some of their dearest friends.

oh but not in acowar.
those characters had plenty of opportunities to die.
in the beginning, when Feyre is attacked by Lucien's brothers. Nesta could have died when the city was under attack. Elain could've died when she got captured.

but nah, they're all fine.

and then I look at this book

and I'm like, bruh

the final throne of glass book is coming.

Break my heart, Maas. I give you permission.

Anyway, back to this book.

the second book was hard to get through, because we don't see any of the characters, and Amani is basically alone.

But I read it, and I knew that I wanted to stick with this series, becaue I was invested in it.

and I'm so glad I did.

okay,

spoilers

the rest of the review contains spoilers

OH MY GOD

WHEN THE DJINN SAID THAT SOMEONE HAD TO DIE

i was like, oh, Amani can pick who dies? she can just say the sultan and it'll solve all the problems

BUT THEN IT WAS AHMED AND JIN

AND IM LIKE NOOOOOO

and then i remembered that short story where like, Jin saved the last of his food for Ahmed

I knew, that Jin would easily lay down his life for Ahmed

AND AHMED WAS LIKE
TAKE ME

BUT AMANI WASN'T EVEN LISTENING

and im so happy that they got to bang the night before

BUT HONESTLY I SHOULDVE SEEN IT COMING

and then like

Bahadur stabs Jin

and I Cried

because so many people have died throughout this book

so of curse Jin would die

BUT THEN AMANI GOT STABBED TOO
because they had been married

AND THEN THEY REACHED FOR EACH OTHER

like that has to be the most romantic thing ever

dying together

holding hands

my heart

oh my god

and then the book went into that little story m0de, and it described all the fallen Demdji,
and how Amani took her last breath

AND THEN SHE TOOK ANOTHER

and i had to reread it

because i didnt get it

and then i turned the page

and she was alive!
and Jin was also Alive!!!!

and dude

bruh

ugh

it was awesome

and I can't help but to look back to Clary and Jace and Feyre and Rhysand

I mean

at the end of City of Glass, when the angel is there and grants Clary one wish, and she wished for Jace

(side note, I might reread the mortal instruments)

that was nice.

and the end when Rhysand was dying, I felt it, but then I didn't like that he came back to life. Maas offers her readers a safety net, much in the same way that Rick Riordan does. When I read Riordan, I know that things will work out.
same with Maas.

And yet here, people have been dying throughout the entire book.i believed that Jin was dead. and also Amani.

they died.

and then they came back

and that was the best thing ever

I love it when books make me feel things.

and when they make me cry.

and now As I finish this trilogy, and shelve it in my mind, I do so with a smile on my face

A great ending to a standout series.
