I can't believe I have to say goodbye to Amani!! While I didn't like this book as much as the first two, I still loved it and boy did o cry at the end.
Hero at the Fall gives us an emotional and dramatic ending to the trilogy. So many things happened in this book that I hardly know where to start. There was no character that I did not fear for, everyone was at risk. Amani and Sita share a truly heart-breaking moment, and I had to put the book down and take a walk because I broke out in feelings. Amani has discovered that someone is trying to wipe out magic by killing the Djinn. She has to make some really difficult decisions, and has a lot to think about: "I thought about revenge and about love and about sacrifice and the great and terrible things I'd seen people do". I cannot express in words how much I loved this book, and the series as a whole. If you haven't read it yet, then I implore you to do so. Immediately.
I loved the first 2 books. I read them nonstop. But I was a bit disappointed by this ending. It felt a bit rushed.
By far one of my favorite book series to date. I took time to finish this to savor all that I could of the ending, and it was worth it. I would recommend this series to anyone and everyone. It has everything you could ask for: a strong female lead, awesome supporting characters, a great and thoughtfully paced storyline, romance, action, emotion. Most importantly, it is well balanced with all these factors. Amani is incredibly relatable and will go down as one of my favorite literature heroines.
This book... This book... It broke my heart in a million pieces. It destroyed me. But it also healed me and made me new. It was heartbreaking but also beautiful... in soooo many ways. I adored every word, every chapter, everything!
Probably a 4.25 rating. It was fantastic, and I really enjoyed reading it. My only faults were that it seemed kinda rushed- the storyline didn't suffer (or at least, I couldn't pick up any faults, it was great) but there were a few grammatical errors and the chapters that switched from Amani's perspective to stories seemed slightly dull. Some chapters also seemed slightly confusing and cryptic, and I didn't enjoy the parallels with the Western genre. But those are my only issues, it was a complete joy to read (I read it in two sittings in under 24hrs, so trust me- it was wonderful). I'd definitely recommend picking it up if you've read the previous books.
Re-read Jan 2021 - I still love this book, this series and this author. Fabulous!
I'm so torn between sadness that it's over and elation because it was so so good! I think this was quite possibly the best way to finish this series. I cried a couple of times, cheered a number of times and held by breath through entire chapters. I've very much enjoyed joining Amani on her journey and cannot thank Alwyn Hamilton enough for bringing her into our lives. If you haven't read this series yet I encourage you to pick it up immediately.

This could very well be my favorite series. Splendid story with a satisfying end.
I think I waited too long after the second book to read this one. I'd forgotten a lot of what happened and some of the characters so I wasn't as invested as I could have been.
This book was a real roller coaster. It took me some time to read it because I was so busy with book to read for class but I'm glad I finally finished it. It wrapped up the series so well. I was heartbroken tho, this book is terrible for that. the only thing I want now is to reread this series.
