Great premise and I loved getting into this book
but I just didn’t really care about the central plot - idk if I thought it would be more coming of age/self discovery/belonging centric but it just felt uneventful to me and I didn’t really care about the cousin Matthew, like he died & I was just like “oh okay” there just wasn’t enough character development for me to care

I love how VE writes, and this one didn’t disappoint. The story was good, but lacked the depth of other books by her. Read it quickly and wanted to stay in this world.

I actually really enjoyed this and I am shocked by all of the lower ratings! Schwab has an amazing writing style where you really feel immersed into the story. This is a bit of a darker story and really reminded me of Crimson Peak and The Haunting of Bly Manor. I loved Death's character. I definitely sat thinking about this book for a bit after finishing. It was that good.
