Got 1 nice takeaway that will stick with me. Love that Charlamagne prides himself on being honest; however, I already knew that before reading and listening to him on air.  Didn’t like that he explained the title of his book at the end which felt incomplete to me and would have liked for him to explain on a deeper level what he meant right at the beginning. Also, felt like the book could have been structured better- didn’t flow well for me. I also think that this book could be really good for young adults, but it all depends where you are at. Some of this stuff that was mentioned for me was just plain obvious.

A raw and engaging read worth picking up. I especially enjoyed the audio version. C Tha God narrates and did not disappoint. I first heard about this book through Gary Vaynerchuk and the #AskGaryVee show. I'm glad I caught that episode because his interview with Charlamange is what inspired me to give this book a try. I'll be purchasing a physical copy to add to my library of books. There were so many good quotes and stories, I want a copy I can highlight and mark up.

First of all, don't take the title for face value: the book is written by Charlamagne, who is known for being controversial. The book is neither about social issues, nor is it a book by a black man lying about the existence of racism in this country. As the subtitle indicates, the book is about creating opportunity rather than just dealing with the hand you've been dealt. I love that this isn't another person born into money trying to convince everyone that they can make it out of struggle. . I think this book would make a perfect graduation gift (high school and college) because there are some major life lessons being explained that are best learned when closing one chapter to open another.

Some of the big themes include understanding that all things work together and that there are no losses, just lessons. Another is the importance of reconnecting with one's core or roots. My favorite was the crucial lesson that one should never hurt themselves helping others. This is a self-help and autobiography in one and because of his style and sense of humor, it made for a great read. It is important for people to learn early in life not to be a victim of their circumstances, as Charlamagne is stressing in this book.

Although I can't stand when Charlamagne fat shames people on the air, I have to give props when they are due. This was a great book. Very insightful. I took away a lot of things that I can apply to my life now & in the future.

…Exploring people & ideas outside your comfort zone are probably one of the truest forms of wisdom. How else can you expect to grow? Never dismiss anything until you explore it for yourself… Charlamagne said it best [paraphrased]

This memoir definitely doesn’t give a f*ck and I can appreciate his story.

Without giving away spoilers, here are my favorite bits about this book:
1. starting with yourself, ALWAYS give people the credit they deserve for being STUPID
2. Ratchetness & Righteousness
3. Shit is the best fertilizer, it helps stuff grow
4. Divine misdirection
5. Judy Blume books
6. The size of your house does not determine your future

Honestly, I usually love memoirs and I love them narrated by the individual and Charlamagne delivers on both accounts.

When i first seen this book, i was intrigued. Considering C tha God reputation i knew this had to be good. DO NOT LET THE TITLE FOOL YOU! I challenge anybody to read this book objectively. Forget what youve seen or heard from him and just read and you honestly will be surprised.

▪This book is not for the faint of heart because its completely written with his voice in mind. I appreciated it. Sometimes bios and memoirs are a little boring because its too formal. I felt like C was talking directly to me while reading it.

▪If you need extra motivation professionally or personally, you can get it in this book. No matter how you feel about him, his work ethic is bomb. He pushes the concept that you can never stop learning and growing and that is crucial to your development.

▪This book explains his personality alot. His took his background and past and used it as a stepping stone to push himself further. He didnt make it an excuse and that gets my respect.
