4.14 AVERAGE

I read this for a class and ended up enjoying it (shock?). Typically assigned books are droll, but this definitely kept my attention. There's just something so immersing about Lopez' writing.

Spent a long time reading this illuminating book. In simple prose, Lopez takes the reader through places and ages across the Arctic and opens their eyes to everything they’ve not noticed about the ‘cold’ lands.
I have learnt so much from this book, it is impossible to count it all - some notes in the book activity.

Like reading the most beautiful nature documentary

Read while deep in the Mojave desert, and yet I gasp at the wonder of it all.

8 out of five stars. Lyrical, scientific and reflective.

Overall this is a really great book for a look into the arctic landscape, people, animals, explorers, and history. It doesn't go in any kind of chronological order of the writer's own travels, but rather a telling of an aspect of the arctic through a series of themes, such as the muskox, animal migrations, the native people, day and night, and the European explorers. It is very nicely written and enjoyable. Really great for anyone who enjoys reading about the arctic or antarctic.
informative inspiring reflective slow-paced

A glittering prize of arctic beauty, geology, oceanography, and ontology. The author's thoughts on the meaning of the land, and gaining new understandings from different culture's (especially the indigenous Arctic peoples') are challenging and valuable. I'll be reading more my Mr. Lopez.

glad I read it but first half really dragged; would be better as video documentary
