Found this battered copy at my local second hand and it's often a good sign. If a book (pocket) is battered that often means it's was well beloved by the owner before. But sadly it was a big miss for me. Just feelt like nonsense and not an exciting read

Re read this book after many years. I liked it again.

Mind bending, engaging, highly recommended

A captivating read when I was a teenager, but in retrospect, complete bullshit.

This book was an interesting read in that it contains a lot of different psychological theories by many of the greats and weaves them together with religion, conspiracy theories, a love story and a story of self growth.

Think it's a lot for one book (especially a book so small?)? You could be right. In this book you learn of the Manuscript. A document that has been around forever (just about), and that discusses the Eight Insights of human evolution. The quest of the book is to find the Ninth Insight before it is destroyed by the Peruvian church/government coalition. Each insight must be learned in order, and by help from others. The insights are things that will help people to treat other better and end up happier.

I dig the insights. But I am left with a weird feeling that the narrator manages to learn all of them...within a few weeks? Obviously coincidental for the book (I certainly wouldn't want to read a long 'One Hundred Years of Solitude' type book...but it almost seemed too easy for the narrator I pick up all the steps).

While I'm not sure I subscribe to all of the insights--I like the underlying message--we are all connected and all here to help each other learn and grow. Read this book with an open mind (an maybe a grain of salt) for what could be a new outlook on life.
emotional medium-paced

Profound adventure story with a great message. One of my fav books.

Mmh, so this is one of this Personal journey books wrapped in a novel. However it is better than most of the other I have read (weren't many but were All terrible). The first chapters I actually liked but then it got way to confused and quiet boring. Interesting idea drafts but way to plain.
reflective slow-paced

I had looked forward to reading this book for so long, but was a little disappointed. Another example for me of a book that has some really interesting ideas, but let down by slow-paced writing and unimaginative description. The ideas of each of the insights I found very interesting - receiving energy from others, connecting with the natural world, identifying how we relate to others, fit nicely with my experience of spirituality and faith, but I kept getting lost in the story about the conspiracy to stop the insights from getting out.
