I was kind of disappointed by this graphic novel. The main reason is that I didn't feel the emotions in the story. It looks like an observants jornal rather than a survivor testimony.
Also the son as a character he is really rude and self-centered. We never find out why he doesn't care for his dad, but cares for his story that he thinks will make him famous/ earn money.
I think the main flaw is that the auther simply wrote/ draw the story that was told to him by his dad and he fly no connection with it.

MAUS by Art Spiegelman is my first graphic novel and it’s one of the best books I've ever read in my life. By far.
This book follows the story of Art's parents, during the 1930s, and describes their experiences as the Nazis invaded and persecuted the Jewish community. MAUS takes place during two different moments. The present time frames Art's life in Florida, where is having deep conversations with his father, Vladek, about the Holocaust. In this graphic novel, Spiegelman portrayed the Polish, the Germans and the Jews as animals.
I believe it’s pointless to say that this isn’t an easy book to read as it’s reductant to state that everybody should read this book, anyway. It was difficult to hold my tears. MAUS not only clearly and bluntly portrays what happened in the Holocaust but it’s also a reflection of its aftermath. The father/son relationship is unforgettable. They dynamic is so touching and funny, at times. What a book!
