One of the most amazing books I've read, very genuine and heart wrenching. You really get a feel of the characters personalities and the art style is fantastic. I have read it 3 times through and will continue to read it over and over.

One of the most impactful books that I have ever read, I had to annotate it despite not usually doing that with graphic novels. Tragic and disturbing, the events are rendered through animals that metaphorically represent the people. This did not take away from the gravity of the facts, but it made the reading experience a bit more bearable (as it was very difficult to go through it at times).
Many other metaphors can also be encountered, together with details about ways of survival, cultural aspects and family and indeed, trauma and death. The alternating timelines and overall style of the graphic novel fit the story and create an interesting visual of the book being written and drawn in front of the reader. Definitely worth reading, will keep thinking about this for a long time.

Read this initially in college. Gripping and emotional story showing not only the atrocities of the Holocaust but the lasting survivors guilt that plagued generations after.
