Where was God when all this happened? How could he let all this happen?
The idea of presenting this situation with Jews as mice and Germans as cats was scary. You know that behind those small eyes and floppy ears are people who died in the most horrific way, people who did nothing wrong to deserve such a fate, but this was WWII and no one was allowed to live peacefully.
The dark art style combined with the story create a perfect graphic novel that everyone must read

This really should be read together. Stopping at the first one wasn't really a full story. I read a physical copy of them combined, which was however very heavy and a but distracting as such.
Beyond that, this is overall an interesting version of telling a personal history of the Holocaust. The second volume read much quicker than the first for me, and seemed more complete a story. I had a hard time getting into the first with understanding the use of animals for the different types of people and just the narratives of rambling conversation when the story is in the present.
Nothing really new here, but helpful perhaps to tell the story in a way to appeal to others who might not read about it otherwise. I found some of the narrative juxtaposition against the present a bit jarring at times as it took you out of the other story. But it did add to the narrative by bringing the effects of the trauma forward. Looking at the images drawn for the last days of being in the encampment, feel it must have been very difficult for the author to produce this work. Overall well done and underlines the horrible acts of the war and genocide.

Maus showed how trauma can still haunt you and your family decades later. This was a devastating, gut-wrenching book. It is easily one of the best graphic novels ever made.

It was hard to read points, due to suicide or how things happened leading into the camps. Definitely good to have read but glad I took my time to break from time to time.
