What a harrowing read. Emotional abuse is subtle and devastating, and I think this book would have been just as strong without the physical violence. That said, slow beginning, crawling to through the midsection, and then the second half flies away in a whirlwind of layer after layer of story being exposed. It was a good read- hard to stomach, but solid.

This had a lot of potential, but it seemed like they couldn’t decide on what twists to use in the book so they used them all. The first half of the book was great, but then the writing style seemed to shift entirely. The flow was all off, and I had the thought that it was as if it was written by 2 different people— and then I realized it was! I’m not sure what their writing process is but it felt disjointed and sloppy. Good ideas and entertaining storyline, though.

I would give this more less 3.5 stars but it wasn’t a 3 so I rounded up. The book goes in a lot of directions. I had an ahha moment in the end. Lots of twist and turns but not really suspenseful.
