"I've been thinking about you since I met you, and you've given me a reprieve from my life without even trying."
Sway is the first book of Adriana Locke's new Landry Family Series. This book is about Barrett Landry, the oldest of six kids, who is also the Mayor of Savannah. He is currently a candidate in an election to become the next Governor of the state of Georgia. Alison is a single mom who is working two jobs to pay for school and provide a stable life for her son Huxley.
Barrett and Alison first meet at a banquet where Alison is working as a waitress. Pretty cliche right? Rich guy and "making ends meet" waitress meet at a party and fall in love. No, this book was so much more than that. First Barrett was a pretty decent guy for a politician. He was such a gentleman and down to earth. Alison was a very strong woman who always put her son first. After their first meeting Alison is hesitant to become involved with Barrett because of her past. I love that she acts responsible and isn't all over him.
"You make me better. Don't you see that? You make me feel like I can conquer the world, Alison. You make me smile, give me little glimpses of something I'd never considered before."
I really enjoyed seeing their relationship grow and how Barrett's family, especially his brother Linc was with Huxley. There were some hiccups in their relationship but that was to be expected. Some of them Barrett handled great others not so much. I love the Landry family and can't wait to read about them. I am really happy we are getting Linc's book next. Summarized this book is a great start to an awesome series with amazing characters.

This one was pretty rough. I never got on board with Barrett. No, I didn’t care for him at all. It’s possible this gets three stars just for the grapes. Alison was fine though. It was frustrating that she forgave him for something out of the blue. We didn’t see her work out why, it just happened. And it wasn’t something easily forgivable.
Good story, just dragged on a bit at the end. Looking forward to Swing next!
Where do you start with this book?
Maybe with the crisp, clear descriptive writing that easily has you right there inside the book.
Or with an arrogant Barrett who changes and grows before your eyes, learning to trust in himself and his values. Discovering that he can't always steam roll ahead and get what he wants, that if he wants Alison then he needs to play by her rules.
And Alison who is a strong, protective mama bear. She has worked to overcome the hurt in her past. She stands up to Bennett and does things on her terms which takes strength as he usually does things his way.
These two are so good for eachother!
Then there is the feeling of old fashioned courting as Alison and Bennett share phone calls and texts and take commitment slowly which is very romantic. But seamlessly fit in some very steamy moments! Their journey, though, is fraught with numerous obstacles that they need to overcome.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review... What an absolutely incredibly beautiful story!? LOVED it... Adriana and blown me away yet again!? Alison is a hard-working single mom, waiting tables at multiple jobs and making sure her son, Hux, is taken care of and happy. After one failed marriage to a former judge, who's now spending time in jail for his lying illegal ways and the whole ordeal left Ali scarred and determined to stay out of the public life. Until she meets Barrett that is... the hot single mayor everyone has been drooling over. Barrett is immediately drawn to Alison and finds himself questioning everything that he worked so hard for... This book was unbelievably sweet, I was brought to happy, heart-wrenching tears over and over!? These two were incredibly hot, Barrett was an absolute sweetheart and Alison was smart, conscious and a wonderful mother. I can't recommend this book enough... Beautiful, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommended love story by an amazing author!!
I didn't find the characters likeable. The MMC came across as a man whore who always gets what he wants and it felt like someone telling him no just became an obstacle he would remove regardless of that person's thoughts or feelings. He gave me the ick.
shook to turn on the audio for this one and find out it's a duet! what a nice surprise! there are things about the audio that got on my nerves but overall I think its worth reading on audio! i was instantly hooked on the politician/normal person trope I think these are so fascinating and tbh i was expecting the most heartwrenching third act break up bc these characters are so compelling and loveable and imagine my surprise when there wasn't a breakup! i will def be continuing the series on audio (hello the duet is amazing) but it's is narrated by the same two people so i need some filler in order to picture their voices as new people haha

Barrett is his town's mayor and the local playboy and he decides he is going to toss his hat into the ring to run for governor. Barrett runs into Alison, who works for a catering company working an event he is attending, and immediately he realizes he needs to know more about her. Alison, having been badly burned by a politician in the past, tries not to let her heart sway over Barrett in his fancy suit and tie.
As with most politicians, election time comes with scandals. I usually avoid politicians in the books I read just because I don't care for that kind of drama, but even though this book had a couple scandals involving Barrett, they didn't seem to take up a whole lot of the story which I enjoyed. Alison learned to trust Barrett despite her background with politics. I also liked seeing more of Barrett's mother and sisters in this book and I'm looking forward to seeing them more in the other books.
Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross narrated this book well. I did like Wen's narration of Barrett better than his narration of Lincoln in book two. I felt Kai's voice fit Alison's personality well, and she nailed the "mean girl" voice.
THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU IF: You're looking to get into a longer series focused around a big family with plenty of different tropes involved.
