The audiobook by Stephen Fry was superb! I highly recommend his version of the audiobooks.
I really enjoyed the first half (Part One) of this book! I liked the mystery, the characters, the reveal, and we have Moriarty being named and mentioned too which is exciting! I have to say, once again we can see the clear love Watson has for Sherlock in the way he writes about and describes him. Also, if this book had been published today, I have no doubt this story would have definitely had a polyamorous relationship between the Douglas' and Cecil Barker -- it was screaming three people in love with each other, and it's very much how I interpreted it.
Unfortunately, part two of this book is bland and uninteresting. I'd rather Douglas' past had been explained or revealed through a speech rather than the whole second half of the book being about his backstory. The reveal at the end of his story was a surprise but for the most part, I was uninterested. If the second part had been different, this book would've easily been a 4 or 4.5 stars.
The ending ends on a mystery and makes me excited to continue onto the next book! The Sherlock books have been more of a Miss than a Hit for me, but I have to say this is one of the more enjoyable ones!

What is truly fascinating about SACD's novels is how in depth the backstories of the crimes are and I think he is the only one who truly succeeds in this. Small read but fun
fast-paced
Excellent reading by David Clark, butthe story was simply not as captivating as his previous stories and none of them dealt with racism really classes in this one much either period well there was maybe classism but yellow face and other stories in The adventures of Sherlock Holmes were much better.
