I've figured out the secret to enjoying this series: I just have to know in my heart that I'm not a furry, and then I can safely ignore the weird moments.

It's over!

description

Not the best book in the series, but a satisfying ending. Need more Tess.

Not nearly as engaging as the previous books. I'm getting a bit weary of Meg's "specialness" and how everyone (Simon) is afraid she'll be upset by something. Also finding it weird that there are so many mundane activities going on, ordering supplies, discussing trivial details - get on with the plot!
Still an enjoyable series, I just didn't feel engaged with this latest tale.

2.5 stars - I'm so disappointed

If this were just any other book in the series I probably would have rated it 3.5/4 stars, but as the conclusion of the Meg. Simon, and Lakeside story it was shit.

The story had a much smaller scope than the last one, which wasn't a bad thing, focusing almost solely on Lakeside and its inhabitants. The involvement of the humans, including the police, into the Lakeside Courtyard is at it's highest and I loved seeing the almost seamless cooperation between the two factions. The Elders also had a presence and were shown to be actively studying the humans, learning what they need to keep and get rid of. None of these things were bad and I enjoyed reading about them, though it was a bit boring at times. The main problems with this book arises with the villain.

The big bad guy in this book is Montgomery's brother, Cyrus. Cyrus is a glorified, narcissistic bully. He's not especially smart and gets away with most of his shit thanks to pure luck. He's also written as an over-the-top villain which was beyond annoying. To make matters worse everyone know he's bad news - EVERYONE! Shifter, humans, elementals, elders, etc, etc. The only reason he gets to stick around Lakeside is because the Elders are curious and want to learn what makes him 'bad'. That's fine and all, but how is it that all these powerful beings are unable to stop this not so intelligent guy from causing trouble, especially when they all know he's evil! Ugh, it was so annoying!

So that combined with it being a bit boring and the romance being a let down. That's right the romantic conclusion was also shit. I don't need romance to appear everywhere in a book - I like it, but don't like it when it detracts from the main plot, but I feel as though I was teased with a Meg/Simon relationship and the conclusion, while sweet, was unsatisfactory.

Overall, I still enjoyed it, but as the conclusion of an arc I was beyond disappointed.

And I decided to round it up to 3 stars because Twyla, Montgomery's mom, was amazing!

Creo que siendo el quinto libro tenía derecho a decepcionarme un poco porque ha sido una larga historia, pero no. Impecable. Fluido y cada vez mas rico en descripción de un mundo increíble.

I was hit with a deep sadness when I thought I this was the last book in the others one of my f-a-v-o-u-r-i-t-e series. But then I saw there was more. You absolutely must read the previous books, or you will be hopelessly lost. The characters and world-building have been carefully built up by Bishop in each book. I love love Anne Bishop's books.

FINALLY.

DeWtf. Wtf. Wtf. Wtf. That's it! That is not fair. It ended too abruptly. I wanted just a bit more of Simon and Meg.
In general it was a good story, although around the last book I got a bit bored because even though Meg is supposed to be the main character, everything revolved around the human pack, and I was a bit sick of them. They were somewhat like leeches in my opinion.

But, I did not want to not know what happened to Meg and Simon after reading 4 slooow books so I read the fifth, to have an ending. And the fifth was better because we had more of Meg, although the human pack went down a level from only annoying leeches to dangerous ones.

At the beginning I quite liked that there were so many POVs, and I still like it. But like I said, they took too much spot light from Meg and that turned it into a different book than what I started reading at first. Monty took too much protagonism in the end.

Oh one more thing, I didn't like the covers in general but this last one was the worst, it was obvious that it is not the same model as in the firsts books and she just looks weird.
