idk how this managed to be so much better than the first one. however, this book is just… pain. god. freaking pain. i usually steer clear of stories with internalized homophobia, *TW self-harm and suicidal ideation, and so much toxicity. i found myself saying a lot “this guy is severely depressed.” i prefer stories that don’t deal with that stuff because i prefer stories that don’t rely on those topics to drive a story since it tends to be overused. and maybe this book is just one of those stories. but somehow this story managed to convey it carefully and thoughtfully. i felt so many things for the MC, anger, frustration, sympathy, relief, and the fact that i could get so highly attached to this character proves how much the story affected me and how good of a job the author did writing it.
i do hope he goes to therapy tho.

I was hesitant to start this since the beginning sets you up for an obvious internalized homophobia plot line which I don’t usually go for. But I really liked the way it was handled here. Colin is a piece of shit and I didn’t find him particularly redeeming but it made Rafe shine all the more. So I guess you gotta pick your battles here.

Having read book one there were a few places where I began to wonder if I'd already read this story (the over lap between Daniel's and Colin's stories).
I enjoyed how the characters are fully developed, they have flaws, they have issues, they have missteps while trying to solve their problems, but they continue to move forward or they fall into a depressed state. Just like real people.

This book is still as heartwrenching and amazing after the second time reading it. Colin is so deep into his selfloathing you can feel it. Roan makes us understand and love a character that we all (probably) hated in In The Middle Of Somewhere and show us how it's done!

This is my favorite Roan Parrish book for so many reasons, but the most important one is the main character, Colin. He is a complex character who serves as a reminder that people often have reasons for their seemingly unreasonable behavior. This entire story is an excellent example of how important perspective is. Colin's character development is amazing to see unfold in such a meaningful way.
This book builds on characters introduced in the first book of the Middle of Somewhere series. It isn't necessary to read the first book, but I do recommend if you want to experience the full impact of Daniel and Colin's antagonistic sibling behavior. For me, this story had a pretty intense emotional impact, in part, because I am an older sibling. I think the author does an amazing job of showing the perils of trying to be a parent to younger siblings when the actual parent is struggling to cope.
This book is a romance, but it also shows the impact that finding love can have on all of your personal relationships.
I have read this book several times, and I decided to try the narration for a new experience. I am very glad that I did. Spencer Goss does a wonderful job of narrating this story, and I look forward to hearing more books with his soothing voice.
