This is more of an overall review of the series, really. When I was a kid, I used to devour these books, but sadly I'd recently somehow managed to forget all about them. I was reminded, however, when I rediscovered this awesome blog: http://www.bloggerbeware.com. These books are a mixture of varying degrees of terrible and amazing - at the same time. I honestly find it really hard to rate them, seeing as they're such a major part of my reading foundation. 11 year-old me would probably have given all of them 5 stars, but alas, I'm no longer 11 years old. In acknowledgement of my young self and the wonderful kitschiness of the series, I've decided on 4 stars. Also, they vary a lot in quality, but seeing as it's been so long since I've read them, I don't remember which ones were best. 4 stars it is.

When you re-read one of your favorite childhood books as an adult, you have to accept the fact that it just won't be the same. Or at least not in most cases. That's what was foremost on my mind as I finished this. It's very clear who the audience for this book is...and it's not anyone over elementary school age. That said, I can still see why this book left the impression on me that it did. Stine understands the thrill of excitement that can come with being scared. And while many of the book's most intense scenes are easily resolved or undermined, his characters do go through genuine life-or-death moments. This shows that Stine respects the intelligence and maturity of his young readers. He takes them seriously, in other words, and that's something young readers will respond to.

After reading the previous goosebumps book, i was starting to think that maybe they weren't as good as i remembered. Thankfully then i read this one.

Horrorland was actually very creative and fun. Being in a horror theme park they were able to be very creative with the scary attractions and do some very cool things without wasting too much time on buildup.

Normally Goosebump books are around 75% buildup and only the last 1/4 are actually scary supernatural stuff. I was surprised that the creepy rides came in pretty early and the astonishingly not very annoying children characters weren't the worst thing ever either.

Short version is a family gets lost and ends up at a horror theme park. the rides are way creepier and scarier than normal and the kids and parents break off from each other.

I wish we got to see the parents have some scary adventures off on their own, but i was happy to see them join up with the kids about 75% of the way through so they at least got to be involved in some of the horror.

All in all, solid entry in the series. The twist wasn't exactly....twisty, but it definitely kept my interest to the end. Definitely one of the better ones.

3.5 out of 5 rounded up to a 4.

This was actually so fun! I picked this book up because I needed a book that was released the year I was born to finish a book challenge and I love stories with haunted amusement parks! The whole plot idea of this story was so much fun!
